Android Central Question

I received my Mate 20 Pro - love it.
However... I'm getting these weird click sounds. Let my try to explain...

The click sound seems to come as almost an anticipation of audio. E.g when i'm scrolling through Instagram and hit a video, just before the video plays the weird click noise happens. This also happens when I open and close the Clash Royale app.. open the app *click*, close the app *click*.
It's driving me crazy! I even noticed it scrolling through an image album on Facebook.. when i scroll to a 'Boomerang', *click*. The click sound will happen only once while within the album and will only happen again if i close the album, reopen and scroll to the boomerang (or any moving image, i imagine).

This happens regardless of my sound settings - on mute, on loud, whatever.

I went into an EE store to see if they guy there had an answer and he was just as clueless.

The sound is certainly not a tone of any sort, simply a funny internal-sounding *click*.

SOMEONE PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT!!

I'm sorry I'm not able to shed any light as I came across this post while looking for my own answers. But I made an account here so I could tell you you're not alone. Even on this site browsing by an ad which I imagine normally would have audio (but I'm on silent) it clicks. It seems like its the device switching the speakers on and off quickly. It's happening everywhere, even setting my alarm times, for each new clock I open it clicks.

I'll continue searching for answers too and post any findings here as I hope this is the first place other new Mate 20 Pro users with the click find via Google.

Thank you for letting me know I am not the only one!

I spoke to a woman over the phone at Huawei Support and it was the first she had heard of such issue. You could say I'm relieved that it's clearly a software issue and not an issue with the phone - let's just hope Huawei locate and fix the issue ASAP.

I will also check back here if I get an update.

I've not managed to find any further information on the matter so either it's not a wide issue or it's just such a new phone.
I'm UK based and I have read a new firmware is rolling out in waves, this is primarily to add camera features (the AI camera) that was oddly missing on launch. But I wonder if it will have any patch for this speaker issue.
I do hope it's software and not a missfiring speaker, hopefully more users report the issue to bring it to Huawei's attention.

I am going to visit a few Mate 20 Pro threads to ask if anyone else is having this issue.

I have 14 days from purchase to have the phone exchanged (you probably do, also), so I may do that if I haven't found any further info by the end of next week.

I may call Huawei again later today and see if anyone else has reported the issue since I last called.

Will keep you posted.

I have added this same question to a mate 20 and mate 20 Pro thread which I hadn't found prior. Hopefully it'll get more responses in there.

That's standard for a manufacturer rep. I've seen issues on this site that 20 people say they've called and asked about - then someone posts that he just called them and they say they've never heard of the issue. Really? Such a short attention span? No, even if it's a major issue, and widely known, written up on a dozen blogs, the manufacturer still has never heard of the problem. Maybe we need a sharper megaphone to shove into their ears to yell into until ... oh, wait, that wouldn't work, it would deafen them. Not that it would make any difference. Hearing or deaf, they "never hear" of problems with their devices.

Just a quick and hopefully final update to this thread. My Mate 20 Pro just updated to 9.0.0.122 and I have yet to hear the clicking sound when video content plays with audio muted.
I've not fully tested, but the issue seems to be resolved in this update. I'm with O2 in the UK and the update pushed around 9pm GMT tonight if it helps anyone on different carriers.
