MAY Security patch (Update: OTA is live!)

Re: MAY Security patch

The release is usually on the first Monday of each month.
Yep I say Monday. We got the April 5 patch before the 5th this month.

Prediction: some will say better battery, some will say worse. Some will say placebo. Also, some will the patch early in the day, the rest of us will just have to be patient and alternate between mashing the update button and posting "don't have it yet" in various threads. ;p

Re: MAY Security patch

The 5th being Saturday this month, it may be Monday, the 7th. Or it may be any time between now (1:30 PM EDT) and tomorrow. I still haven't figured out if it's "The 5th", "the 5th or the first Monday of the month, whichever comes first", "the 5th, or the next workday" or if they cast runes every month to determine the date.

It's got to be casting runes... it's the only thing that makes sense. ;)

Re: MAY Security patch

you guys still using play service beta for manual software update?

Just the regular one. It has the update to pull it when it is available. I never used the beta one to get that.

Re: MAY Security patch

Im thinking it will be Monday before it is released ota

Re: MAY Security patch

Sigh, I miss my Pixel days! (I had the OG Pixel, and then the OG Pixel XL). My V30 is STILL on the Jan patch and not yet on Oreo. :( (Although T-Moble keeps claiming its coming)

Re: MAY Security patch

To top it off I still have touch issues at times. I've noticed with this one if you try to use two fingers to zoom in maps or the camera sometimes it flakes out and the screen starts jumping in and out trying to zoom or move.
I never saw that. (Heard of it, but neither of mine exhibited it.) It's a covered defect. Have it replaced.

I haven't taken the chance yet, what with Magisk. I do a TWRP backup, manually replace the firmware with the new one, restore the backup and let Magisk do its bootloader thing. It may take a little longer, but I've bricked it too many times trying a "remove Magisk, do a normal update" thing.

Re: MAY Security patch

Yeah multi-touch fix needs to be fixed ASAP. Don't play games too often on my phone, but this bug makes PUBG almost unplayable.

It's been the first Monday of the month with one exception for as long as I've cared.

Good grief, is it really? I just assumed it was a software bug. This will be my fourth one in 5 weeks since my original purchase. Since I'm past my return window now maybe I just have to swappa this thing and go get something bloated that works. How is this an issue in 2017/2018......

Bugs will exist all the way until 4093... so be prepared :).

It does suck it happened to you. I have had mine since release and I can honestly say I have never had this multi-touch issue you guys are describing. Just saying I never understood the whole "This is (insert year here) how do we have this problem?!" because software.. will always .. always.. have bugs. It is made by humans and humans aren't perfect.

Yeah that's fair, and I understand bugs will continue to persist, I just would have thought something like multi-touch was already figured out wouldn't be an issue but I have quarks with Bluetooth too so I guess it'll just expected to continue.

Well hopefully they fix it. That is what I try and base the "good" or "bad" on when ti comes to companies and their phones. Bugs will happen but if they just ignore it that is when I get angry.

Re: MAY Security patch

So maybe tomorrow for the next security update.

Re: MAY Security patch

Anyone ever notice what time of day the patch usually comes out?

For me its usually in the afternoon anywhere between 2 pm and 5pm EDT That's how its been lately.

Its going to be interesting if the update button pulls it this month, it didn't last month.
But did the month before that , Ha
