MAY Security patch (Update: OTA is live!)

Re: MAY Security patch

At some point you just have to ask yourself. Is the juice worth the squeeze.
I am starting to ask that. For the most part, I like the phone. Problem is what else is there? Nothing is really getting my interest.

I've barely used this thing today. Now its not bad to still have 84% left after 7 hours but not after 20 minutes of a podcast and a couple texts. I haven't used Spotify at all today.

Re: MAY Security patch

I only had my Pixel 2 for a couple days before the April patch came out but I have noticed that standby drain seems pretty bad on mine. If I don't charge overnight (if it's over 60% I don't charge it) I'll see 10-12% drain in around 6 hours. Even my S7 with most of the same apps wasn't that bad.

To top it off I still have touch issues at times. I've noticed with this one if you try to use two fingers to zoom in maps or the camera sometimes it flakes out and the screen starts jumping in and out trying to zoom or move.

If your battery is draining that much on standby something is definitely up. I can leave my phone for 7-8 hrs over night and I only see about a 2% drain. My Pixel 2 XL is about the same age as yours.

Yeah I didn't think it was. My G6 was closer to what you are seeing with your 2XL.

Re: MAY Security patch

Theo, how long have you had this one? As I recall you've had a number of replacements so far. How many apps do you have? The reason I ask is that I have a fairly large number of apps and for me it takes quite a while to get everything set up and updated on a new phone. And while all that is going on, I have more battery use than will be normal later on.

You are correct sir, this is my third Pixel 2, I've had this one for three weeks now. I have 99 apps total. Things have been setup for awhile I think.

OK, that's not it then. I did read about a touch problem once where the guy had heavily calloused hands and touch wasn't as effective since touch relies on the electrical capacitance transfer in a person's hands. The callouses were apparently acting as electrical resistance.

Dang you are definitely more patient then me. I love my Pixel 2 XL and (knock on wood) no issues but ... I wouldn't go through 4+ replacements and such to do it lol. I would have gone with another phone or an iPhone :P.

Yeah I don't think that's it, I don't have that going on and I've not had this issue with any other phone going back several years to my first android phone.

Yeah I know I've lost a little bit of money on it now as my return date has passed. I still have my G6 active on T-Mobile and I could just go back to it or use my jump. Just not sure to what. I went with the Pixel 2 because I wanted the software experience but I can't seem to get a decent piece of hardware so I feel pretty stuck right now. It just feels like no matter what I'm going to have an issue of some sort no matter what I get. Looking back at it now my S7 ran pretty well for a bloated carrier phone. I mean that thing would suck the battery down when you weren't using it to but not this bad which is saying something and my G6 beats both of them easily but after using the Pixel 2 camera for a few weeks, I'm having a hard time going back.

Re: MAY Security patch

Theo, I don't have any other ideas. I wish you lived near Atlanta, GA and we could get together and compare hardware. It would be very interesting to see if you might have touch problems on my Pixel 2 XL or I would have touch problems on your Pixel 2. All I can say is that my Pixel 2 XL has absolutely no touch or battery problems and is the best phone I've owned to date.

And yes, I too would have a very hard time giving up this camera! :)

Re: MAY Security patch

Maybe has something to do with Google I/O for why it hasn't come out maybe, it does start tomorrow?

Today is the 1st Monday of the month; the images should be live within the next couple hours with OTA's rolling shortly after.

Re: MAY Security patch

No joke.... I can't pull it OTA by checking for update.

It doesn't show up as an software update on my Pixel 2 XL yet either. But we can download it and load the image that way.

Re: MAY Security patch

OTA isn't live yet. It is live for side loading.

I'm aware of that... I was stating the obvious for the benefit of those that's it's not so obvious for.. Side loading comes before OTA
