It seems no matter what phone it is there is always someone complaining about battery life. In my own experience I have never had any trouble finding an outlet at some point in the day and getting a quick 1 hour charge. as long as I do that I can get full 18+ hour days out of my phone with extreme use.

Not really asking a question as much as wanting to have a little debate regarding if it is that big of a deal to charge your phone at home/work/in public

My BlackBerry's were probably the only two out of a long list where I would actually be startled by a low battery indication and the only time I had to actually plan ahead with the BB was during a hurricane. But even in the days of non feature flip phones people were always wringing their hands over battery life. Maybe if they weren't constantly jerking around with their phone, turning on the screen to check a meter, they'd get a few more hours.

And these days, with chargers being more or less standardized and PC compatible, it's really a non-issue.

I'm totally lying about the battery life I get on my Nexus though. It's just not possible.

EDIT: actually, the Pre...........horrid horrid horrid battery life and anyone who complained about it was completely justified. I still use mine as an alarm clock cause the whole Touchstone setup is nice. Airplane mode on. Just a clock. It goes dead in 48 hours if it's not charging and I JUST bought a brand new battery for it a two months ago.

Ah. Blackberry battery life. Miss those days.

I can baby mine when I need to to make it last when I know I can't charge up for the whole day. And yet. I still know people with regular phone that are like damn my battery died.

Like seriously. What you didn't charge it for 2 weeks?

Agree about BB battery life. Yet once I upgraded (if you can call it that) to the Storm 1, battery life once again became an issue. No doubt it was the bigger screen and touch capability that did it

My Storm 1 was destroyed when a statue of the Virgin Mary fell on the screen. Yes, I can honestly say it was a miracle.

lol my grandma always said God works in mysterious ways!

Seriously though the Storm 1 was so buggy. They pushed it out way to fast. Just think if BB would have taken their time with that phone and really made a name for themselves in the touch screen smart phone market. Could have been a game changer. Now they are stuck playing catch-up while trying to convince the business world that they are the best phones for the professional american lolololol

I too came from a palm pre so I find the battery life on this thing phenomenal. Then again I've always ran my brightness really low on all of my phones so I probably get a little better from that. It's always so low I just get used to it.

I don't think it's wrong to need to charge your phone in a public place. I normally don't need to though since the battery lasts pretty damn long for me.

Right now, I'm on 21% with 1 day, 14 hours, 5 minutes, 30 seconds. That's with 5 really long calls, some games of Battleheart, checking forums, Google+, and texting.

If I wanted to get longer, I could put my phone on airplane mode when sleeping since I'm not going to be up to call or text anyway. I normally do that but I stopped so I could receive the OTA update (which I have and is working awesomely).

I don't sweat battery life. Whenever I buy a phone, I always either buy an extra (or manage to cajole one from the Sprint reps) and throw it in my pocket when I think I'll be away from outlets. I also make sure I have a car charger.

I then use my phone as much as I want, without worrying.

Buy a spare battery off Amazon then buy an external battery charger. Can't find the one I use on Amazon anymore but I did find it on eBay. It has a spot for phone and battery but I don't trust the phone part so I only use the battery.

Your total cost should be around $50 and well worth it. I never worry about battery minus "is it time to switch my battery yet?". If I unplug at 8 am I will be drained of both battery's by 4am keeping 4g always on.

My brother just bought a Nexus S and did this spare battery plan from day one. He said it was the best advice for any Android user.

I get 14+ hours a day on my Nexus (unlike on the Epic which barely lasted half that). It's not a thing to charge at work, or in the car on the way to/from work (lovely 45 min commute each way). And if riding with a friend on an outing, I can usually grab their charger if need be as the micro usb plug is so common.

I personally feel that plugging in in a place of business where you are not employed and merely stopping in (be it to grab a bite to eat, the local bar, your childs karate school, etc.) is a bit tacky.
I can see where it might be a bit more necessary in cities where public transportation is utilized more than ones own vehicle, but that isn't the case here in Ft. Lauderdale. If I lived in say NYC....my opinion might be the exact opposite.

I'm pretty interested to hear on this subject myself.

I guess no one here has used the Blackberry Style which my mother uses. You thought the Pre was bad? This thing dies on standby in 24 hours or less. Google its horrid battery life for yourselves.

I had tons of spare batteries for my Pre, though I rarely had to use them. In addition, the Pre took a long time (~5mins) to reboot. So, I avoided switching batteries at all cost.

My NS4G seems to suck the juice pretty quickly. I would like to get ~1.5 days on a battery with typical (medium) usage.

36 hours on medium usage? Not possible.

Not in a year, not in two years. Never will you see an Android phone have good battery life. It's just not gonna happen and frankly, its a bit said. People have done well in managing it to last over a day, which means you have to sacrifice not using specific feeds which is dumb because iPhone uses hordes of push notifications and it lasted about 40 hours. If I use my Android phone the same way I used my old iPhone, then it dies in 10 hours.

I have to carry about 2 battery packs to make sure I'm not always looking for a usb cord. And frankly, its a bit pathetic on Google's part for not optimizing this issue. You need to be a rocket scientist to go and tweak all your settings to get extra juice. The average doesn't care or won't do that and so they will keep on complaining on the battery life.

it's 2011, extra batteries is lame.

I'm not sure I would say never. Dual core are supposed to be better with power, and Android is still growing. Personally I don't mind carrying an extra battery or two. I don't know how much I believe the iPhone battery usage stories either, because the stats they put out for the battery on the MacBook pro is nowhere near what I've ever gotten. They said something like 7 hours when it was new, and i haven't gotten better than 3.5. My Transformer is the first thing I've ever had that gets the battery life they advertise.

Since smartphones can do so much, I simply plug it in whenever I can. I take it off the charger in the morning, and usually plug it in to the computer at work at some point. I have never had an issue with the battery life.

I think it is funny that people still complain about this. With the ability to charge it at work, as well as in the car, I have never had to charge it in a "public" place. It amazes me that some people get upset if they cannot use their smartphone to it's fullest capabilities and still get a week's worth of battery life. You can't have it both ways.

Either get a smartphone, use it, and plug it in, or get a dumbphone and have the battery last for days.

Just my two cents for the debate...
