Maybe there are bum batteries?

There's no attitude here, other than that of someone just as frustrated and has read and read and read until I'm blue in the face about this battery life issue. I'm not kidding when I say I have read over 3000 posts - in this forum and several others.

"Many factors outside of signal reception contribute to battery life if not than putting your phone in airplane mode would mean that your battery would last forever." I think you meant to say "then" not "than" - just a pet peeve of mine, and contributes to the fact that I pay extreme attention to detail - Yes, there are other factors, and no, putting your phone in Airplane mode would not allow it to last forever. There are plenty of things you can do with the device that don't include any of the radios, but that would drain your battery. What I am saying, is that the signal strength is the LARGEST contributor to battery drain. PERIOD...... no questions - now, the question is, is this poor handling in the OS, or a hardware issue? Either way, stock up on batteries and just get over it already. It's like people are asking to run their PLASMA television off of AA batteries.........not gonna happen. Same with this phone, you need POWER - so stock up!
This is great!!! I have no problems with battery just trying to assist owners who are affected.

So do you have any contributions on the thread topic of a possible batch of underperforming batteries?

sorry people posting off topic in threads is kind of a pet peeve of mine.

Was this necessary ? This is a forum about this phone. You discuss things about the phone. A lot of users have had problems with battery life, that's why there is so many battery threads. If you don't like it the thread don't post in it.

Not trying to be a di*k head. :)

If you people would just face the music and see what's what, you'd move off the battery issue. Your "friend" how has 2 Evo's and "amazing battery life" probably has a better signal than you. And I won't think you're a d*ckhead if you don't think I'm a b*tch. ;)

Go to your main home screen, press MENU>SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>BATTERY>BATTERY USE>CELL STANDBY .........look at your "time without a signal" Right now, mine says "99%" and that's because I'm in a room where my signal is lousy and I just removed it from the charger 25 minutes ago. Most days it's 50%-70% at my house, but when I'm "out and about" it's about 20%. Those who are lucky enough to have this number be under 10% are the ones experiencing AMAZING battery life. The other day when I was running errands closer to the "big city", I had battery all day long! The next day I was home and got my usual 7 hours. I've watched this thing from the very beginning and I know exactly what the problem is - signal strength.

If each of you would watch this on a daily basis, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Oh and did I mention, STOCK UP on some extra batteries........ then, no worries. It takes all of 2 minutes to swap a battery and power back up - and you're back off and running, then you can use the thing like it was intended to be used.

tom, honestly, I don't believe there is a "batch" of bad batteries.. I think it's just SO completely impossible to narrow down all the variables so the first thing people think is "I got a bad phone" - they run back to the store and exchange it and get a new one that is "so much better" when really, they have a brand new device that they've probably been more careful which apps they've installed and how they're using it than the day they got it. (Because everyone was so giddy and excited and installing 942 apps at the same time, I'm guilty!)

My suggestion to the entire Android community: restore your device, then watch your signal strength.

Just sayin'........

I agree with you that signal strength is a large contributor, but it has been previously mentioned that there is not only more than 1 battery type in circulation but that there are also several different hardware versions in circulation. This could possibly point to a bad batch of phones which may have came from a specific assembly location.

I am not an english major but I do specialize in statistics and you are suggesting that after observing only 1 sample (this being yourself) that every person having battery problems is due to poor reception. Probable theory would accurately suggest that when drawing a hypothesis on a certain event with many possible outcomes it would be impossible for only 1 event to have a 100% probability of being the problem. I must also point out that to draw an accurate conclusion of any survey 1 sample is without question at least 99 samples shy of what would be necessary to draw an accurate conclusion.

This is not a "my battery sucks I am returning my phone" thread, this thread asks a question and we are exploring the possibility. The response giving by you was not only rude but it was an uneducated hypothesis with zero information to support your theory.

"I do not think it is a battery issue" is a much better response, I understand you have a passion for the phone like myself but nobody in this thread is bashing the phone we are just looking for answers.

I think that behind the bickering every one here all agrees.
#1 - WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth have minimal, if any, effect on the battery.
#2 - 4G does effect the battery
#3 - ATK may not be needed and are a preference of some. If it improves your battery, great!
#4 - Signal strength probably most likely does play a part, constantly searching for signal is going to use the battery
#5 - heavy usage of data and internet will drain the battery faster (common sense for any phone)
#6 - some hardware versions might be better than others.
#7 - just like everything, there are some bad ones out there.

Net result, there are plenty of lucky people who got good hardware, good battery, live with good signal, have normal to light usage and get a respectable battery life. There are others unfortunately who live with worse signal, are heavier users and might also have a legitimate issue with their hardware or battery, and these people unfortunately have short battery life. Within this group, some still love the phone and can live with an extra battery and chargers near by (and hopefully signal may improve for them over time). And unfortunately there are others who can not live with the poor battery and will return the phone (thankful to sprint with a 30 day return policy unlike EVERY other carrier).

I just wish that those that are "slamming" the battery publicly in articles and forums put in that others have reported great battery life and that sprint does have the great return policy. People read reviews before a purchase and need to know that there are plenty people out there without issues.

this is false. i don't agree with this.

IMO WIFI, GPS, and BT do affect battery life - ESPECIALLY WIFI and GPS. BT is relatively low power.

Sorry, you are right, WiFi most likely does impact it. But GPS I don't think does. I had mine on all day with great battery life.

I've already stated that I've read many, many forums about this issue, so I'm not using only myself to gauge anything.

I'm sorry that you've mistaken blunt statements for "rude", I think most just refuse to admit that their battery life stinks and just deal with it. It's a powerful device, I envy those getting 14+ hours a day.

Sent from my rockin' Evo.

I'm not surprised there's more than one battery. HTC needs a lot of batteries, and undoubtedly has more than one supplier. Both of which have to meet the same HTC specs. Is it possible there was a bad batch of batteries? Sure. But it's unlikely one supplier consistently supplies weaker batteries, or they wouldn't remain a supplier for long.

I didn't know I had a "battery life" problem until I read it in this, and many other, threads like this.

I have a car charger, a home charger, a laptop that charges, and will get one or two extra batteries for days I'm away from a charger.

I carried 2 extra batteries for my Treo 700p then 755p and never once cared about battery life. I'm not minimizing the problems people are perceiving. For me, though, I'm at peace with needing multiple batteries.

It's a powerful smartphone and I don't even care what drains the battery because then I'll be tempted to start shutting things off. I don't want to neuter the phone that I bought for its power.

I know one person who had his EVO's battery go dead yesterday, popped in an Incredible battery from a friend and it powered right up... So I hope HTC and Sprint corrects these battery issues for those who have them quickly.
