Maybe this explains the rebooting/bad battery life?

Yes Ottscay, I am rooted. I used the root/unroot windows program and it took like 30 seconds.

Last night I let the battery drain completely until it shut off. I then plugged it in, charged for the 2.5 hours it took to get it back to 100%. I then unplugged it and let it sit overnight.

Have you tried letting the phone charge for more than 2.5 hours, in my experience with my past phones just because the indicator shows the battery is full it does not mean the battery is charged to it's full limit. I normally charge mine about 8 hours while I sleep and since I am on vacation I am guessing here but I would bet I browsed apps and the web a good 3-4 hours made several texts, rearranged the screens many times and made a few calls. With all of this and 16 hours off the charger I hit the 15% warning.

aw..thats no fun lol! back in the good ol' cupcake days we had to DL a zillion files and use command prompt and terminal emulator to root; while keeping our fingers crossed hoping our phone boots back up. good times..... ;-)

had my phone on the OEM charger that came with the DX last night (phone on, but screen locked <<blacked out>>.......the phone was charging for about 8 hours.......

......and when I woke up, it said the phone was only 90% charged!

How is that possible?

my brother in law having same issue, he called verizon and they were sending him a new phone I will let you know what happenes, but I went away this past weekend and used lightly myself a few phone call a few texts checked email a few times took 1 video and 5-6 pictures and boom needed to recharge by 5 pm well I couldnt I was at a disney park. I agree it should at least get you through a day if nothing else, you should be able to use the phone to its capacity with worrying about only getting a half day out of it. I love the phone and just want a battery fix Please help.. I already turned stuff off and adjust time on email alerts etc including dimming the screen brightness. Really should NOT have to do all this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So My brother in law went to verizon and he had a bad battery they gave him a new one and he said it seems to be holding up much better.. I was just recently on vac and kept the battery on charger over night while I slept used moderate at them parks took a few pictures 1 video by 7pm I had 30% left. I came home let phone completely die and put on charger for the 2 -2 1/2 hrs it took too charge, Im still going today at 60% without charging it, I used it for a few calls texts checked facebook and took some pictures watched a video I took on vac. I didnt charge at all phone was on all night doing nothing other than whatever is running in backround and It seem to be ok, but its early its 10:30am. Since I have had this phone it seems to hold a charge better when I only leave on charge for the necessary time it takes to charge rather then leaving it on charger all night, IS this a myth or is it because I let the battery completey die???? I do keep my phone on all the time as I need to be contacted in case of an emergency, but like I said it doesnt nothng when Im sleeping..

i think it's time for me to visit verizon and get a new battery. it gets hot and seems to drain way too much. this isnt my first smartphone, but is my first large screen device so maybe i need to temper my expectations. but, i've tried just about everything mentioned in these forums and my battery is not performing like others. off the charger at 6:00AM, and gets me to 4PM if I'm lucky. so, that's 10hrs. now bad, but thats with very light use.

Whats the brightness setting on these peoples phones? Cant it just be what happens to a battery when you have a monster touchscreen?

Why does something have to be wrong with the phone?

BTW, I get from 0530 am to 0230 pm with a 100% before I plug it in to save shut down. So I get 7 hours until I hit 15% warning.

I have, I honestly can't think of anything else to do. I called Verizon last night and the tech guy actually recommended ATK and setting it to 30 minutes to save my battery life. It was plugged in all night last night, turned it on at 6:03 this morning and am already at 80%. 3 total text messages and 2 phone calls. No mobile web at all. As far as I'm concerned, this is not acceptable.

I would say that if you want to accept that level of battery life then nothing is wrong for you. But for those of us that either are on the go all day, in meetings or as someone else noted on vacation then it is not reasonable. Furthermore, I love the phone and use it to death, but mine doesn't work very well when my battery is at 0%.

One thing that I did find on my X is that with WeatherBug installed and their Widget on my Home Screen my battery was getting crushed, little more then 6 or 7 hours. Since I have removed that and a couple of other new style apps I am making it through the day with juice left to spare. I am not using a lot of applications, but I do use 2 Internet Mail accounts that are fairly active along with Corp Outlook via Good Mobile that is extremely buys as well as texts and some web surfing.

Just to update you all on my screen situation, I keep it at 11%, so that is very dim. My social networking is turned off, only to wifi and everything updates very sparingly.

I agree 100%. Everyone can say what they want about the iPhone, but to be able to do what that phone can do and not go dead is a great thing. If Android wants to catch Apple, in which I believe they have in the OS and UI part of it, they will have to have a batter that can support the phones features.

I love it how BB and Android users always talk about how the iPhone has very good battery life... some of you guys should take a trip on over to the various iPhone forums. I always take some time to go over and see what the iPhone people are saying and they, like all of the rest of us, have some people who get very very very good battery life and those that only get 5 hours out of it. Some even say they experienced better battery life with the 3GS than the 4!

hey all, so if you havent already, i've been experimenting today with an app called Juice Defender. No joke, this app is saving major battery life for me. i was typically going about 1.5 hrs for 10% of battery use on average. after i installed this app, i went to 3hrs for 10% of battery use. give it a shot if you havent. i'm very pleased with these results so far.

rion_j, curious to know what you have your settings at on JD. I am installing it now and going to test it out. We can collaborate to find the best settings for the Droid X and be happy once and for all.

totally, i'll keep everyone posted. jason, i just let the app choose for me and didnt make any other setting changes. there are advanced options, and i didnt even mess with that until i can see how the basic settings affect battery.

basically, the program shuts off 3G when not need in use or when your phone is on standby. Since i'm at work, it also flips on wifi which i'm finding is also much better on battery compared to 3G on all day. i've been checking email, getting weather updates, feedr updates, seesmic updates, etc...all is going well. to give you a better idea, i've had my phone off charger since 5:45am, it's now 3:00PM and i'm at 60%. I didnt install this app until after 10:00AM. normally by 3:00PM, im down to 30%.
