Media/Alarm Sound Not Working after root

So I rooted and unlocked the boot loader using the awesome threads above (great work BTW) and am currently running cyanogenmod 10 (9/17 nightly). Everything is working great except for the speaker when I try to listen to music or use the alarm. When I get a call it works, when I use the speaker while in a call it works, and the little sounds when you lock the phone etc work. At first I thought it was an error with the ROM so I flashed the aokp jelly bean build 2 but had the exact same issue. Next I unrooted using the method provided in the thread above and everything worked just fine. Then I rerooted and before flashing played some music and the speaker worked fine. Once I reflashed Cyanogenmod again I am still encountering the same issue. Is this an issue with the ROMs or is there something I can do because I hate Touchwiz with a passion and want to flash like crazy (got the itch). Any help would be appreciated.

I have been using Cyanogenmod on my EVO 4G for about 18 months and love it. So I have been looking into it for my SG3 upgrade phone coming tomorrow. I think I will root but wait on Cyanogenmod because everything I read is that it is not ready for prime time. I'll let the hard core nightly flashers polish it up and then flash it in a few months when the bugs are worked out.

Well, I'm not sure so much that it's just Cyanogenmod, as I'm having the same issue when I flash AOKP's Jelly Bean Build 2. For the most part, I am having no other issues with the ROM: It's fast, good on battery life, and did I mention fast? I'm just not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, as I followed the provided instructions in the above guides to a T, or if there is an easy fix which will make the speaker work with media and the alarm.

It could be that both ROMs have the same speaker issue right now, but I haven't seen anyone else comment on it, so what do I know? :p

Omg thank goodness some else has this issue as well. I use my phone as an alarm and this was the only issue I had when on cm or aokp. The alarm just didn't work I mean it would buzz and stuff but that's it. I thought it was just me. I have done many flashes and the usual wipe data format system and all routine. Any help would be appreciated on this one.

If you lose notifications after flashing CM10 check then unchecked 'link ring tones and notification volume' under settings/sound/volumes.

I have the same issue on M1....but when I was running the 8-16 nightly I never had the issue. I think its just a bug right now with AOSP based ROMs or something

I ended up having to going back to stock and then rerooting. It fixed my problem. Don't know why it happened, but that seems to be a safe fix.

You guys really need to start backing up your devices directly after root.

It'll save you a lot of heart ache.

No heartache here, eventually got stuff working just fine.

So you'd rather Odin all the way back than simply restore a backup via CWM? Okay. That's your prerogative. Just giving you some advice to make your life easier.

Hey guys. I know this issue hasn't been talked about for a while, but the same thing is happening to me.

Are there no other workaround aside from unrooting? If not, I have TouchWiz backed up through CWM, so what steps would I need to take to unroot? Did you simply use Casual's tool? And there's no need to worry about the bootloader, right? Just simply un-root and re-root?

Thanks in advance for any help. This bug is frustrating seeing as the rest of AOKP M1 is solid.

Try this first:

If you lose notifications after flashing CM10 check then unchecked 'link ring tones and notification volume' under settings/sound/volumes.

I haven't actually lost notifications – I still get sound when receiving texts, emails, calls, etc.

With that being said, I did try that method and nothing changed. I did get the alarm to work by turning the volume up and down when selecting the alarm's ringtone (as suggested by someone in the AOKP RootzWiki).

However, I can't get any sound when using Google Now. Also, I don't have any music files on my phone to test yet, but other users who were experiencing the same issue said they couldn't play music out of their external speaker, only headphones.

Thanks again for any help or ideas you might have. I really appreciate it.

Try an app named SoundAbout in the Google Play store. The Pro version lets you route media and phone call audio to Bluetooth when you want it. You can route music to a Headphone wire in your car's Aux input and also route phone calls to Bluetooth in your car. Comes in handy for cars that have Bluetooth phone, but no Bluetooth media.

U can try downloading goo manager and inviseblek has the sound Zip for touchwiz. Maybe try flashing that. Idk but maybe that'll work on your stock rom.
