I know how to move files TO the nexus 7, but is the reverse possible, move files FROM the N7 to a USB drive?
If it is, how?
Thanks in advance.

Just drag and drop to the USB drive like you did to move it to the nexus 7.....

I understand, but the USB device is not dragn'droppable as it activated by the otg and media importer, so how?

Are you asking if you can transfer files from the Nexus 7 directly onto a flash drive that's connected via OTG cable?

Sorry for high jacking...

I've successfully transferred files off the n7, directly on to a garmin as it goes, no problems. I use stick mount.

I can't seem to transfer large movie files, just doesn't even try, is there a size limit?

John

That is correct

Perhaps you can use a file Explorer like ES Explorer and just simply navigate the files from there.

The Nexus Media Importer app USED to be read-only, but it was updated not too long ago, and can now WRITE to the USB drive, also.

However, it's not drag & drop. You have to select/highlight the files you want moved, and then choose the option you want (move or copy) from the dropdown menu in the upper corner of the source folder.

Is there a file size limit?

ES File Explorer (or any file manager, for that matter) can't read a USB device on a Nexus tablet, if it's not rooted. Only Nexus Media Importer can do that.

Just purchased a USB adapter for my non rooted note 2. Plugged a pocket drive in to see if it would read and worked just fine using es file explorer.

Yes, that's because you have a Note. If you'll notice, this thread was posted in the Nexus 7 forum, and the OP is referring to his Nexus tablet, which does not support OTG natively.
