I got the 64GB model from Amazon for $300 during the deals last week. I wanted an 8" tablet for media and games (especially emulators) but with more CPU power than my Tab S 8.4 (gave to my wife). The Tab S 8.4 was great for media, but the chipset is weak for emulators since they are CPU heavy. Besides the build that is very good, here is a line item summary review:

Sound: Stereo is surprising full in spite of side firing. Loud in a good way. Watched some bits from concerts and movies- sound was better than expected.

Display: Even when set to 1080p the display looks great (did not expect this either). Movies, comics, pictures- all look great.

Wifi: Very good stability and range (better than the Tab S and equal or better than iPad Pro)

UI: Update. The update to 5 has made the UI much better. Gone from Dislike to Like.

Speed: Device is smooth and ditto for games in 1080p or 2K

Thermals: Device does not appear to get hot even after heavy use

Battery life seems good for IPS, but not ready to place estimates. Once again though, it appears better than expected.

Emulators: I have tested many devices including the Tab S2, S3, current Asus Zenpad and currently own the 8+ with 835 chipset. The Media Pad blows them all away for the higher CPU emulators like Dolphin, MAME and PSP. The 8+ is the near equal, but throttles after using Dolphin for ten minutes- no throttle causing stutter with the Mediapad and the device again does not get hot.

Even CPU heavy games like Rival Schools play smooth in MAME. The 8+ with 835 does not play smooth.

Factoring price and performance and my usage profile, I give the Mediapad M3 a 9/10.

Excellent review,I`m sure you`ll like the Nougat/Emui 5 update when you get it

The first thing I did when I got the update to EMUI5 was turn the app drawer on, I really love this tablet.

Here is where you can get a pretty much stock Android look on the Huawei MediaPad M3

I am on Nougat on my M3 and I have the exact same version as your device. This is by far the best Pixel launcher I have come across. The only downside is that you have to sideload it. But the developer keeps updating it so that is quite nice.

One other item to add, on Nougat the battery life is excellent. I watched 1.5 hour movie yesterday and the tablet lost 10% of battery charge.

One small drawback is the audio output from the headphone jack is very weak whereas the output from the speakers is excellent!

I haven't played with toggling the display to 1080p but now that I have read up on your review, I will try it out tonight.

I got the update and now use the stock UI. The one issue though is whenever I try to copy paste data from the device or to the computer from the device I get an error. Seemed to work better before for data transfers.

The update appears to have removed the option that was there. Was in the battery section. Now the option is more vague and does not list the resolution.
Thanks for that....I`ll have a looky when I get home from work.

Here is the option, it is very vague.

Yeah that's what throws me off is the "as required" part. That was not there before. None the less, the M3 rocks.

Yep the M3 is an outstanding tablet, blindingly fast even after the Nougat update👍🏻

Bought one in March, didn't like it and returned it. My Tab 8.4 had gotten worse so I pulled the trigger and gave it another try. The Nougat and EMUI5 updated fixed like every problem i had with it back in march, outstanding. Still can't find a case i like, but that is not the tablets fault.

Yeah good cases are a problem. I am semi happy with mine. It was only $5 on Amazon though so I got it. Still looking for a better case.

Amazon has some good cases, but not the selection that a Samsung would have.

I had bought two of them that I am not 100% satisfied with. I am trying to modify one of them. I want a stable stand case with slots, and a wide base. Easy removal is a plus, searched Amazon and ebay and found nothing.
