[MEGATHREAD] How do I turn on "Connect to URL"

[AC Question]

When sent a web address via text message, I cannot connect to it and instead get the message above. However, when I go to 'settings' on my LGG2, there is no option to turn on URL. Can anyone help me to be able to open web pages sent via text?

That sounds like a virus text. You don't "turn on your URL", you don't have a URL in your phone. (A URL is a Uniform Resource Locator, otherwise known as a web address.) I wouldn't tap that text.

Welcome to Android Central! Open your Messaging app, tap Menu>Settings, and see if there's an option there to open links in the app vs using the main browser app.

A URL is a web address. You can't turn it on.

Check your APN settings to make sure you have cellular data.

Look up your country and carrier on the dropdown list here: World Wide Mobile Phone Settings Follow the instructions.

URL is just another way of referring to website addresses (it could be a few other things, too, but I assume your question is related to websites).

To connect to a URL, simply type the address into the navigation bar of your favorite web browser.

As I said further up the thread, the only thing you can turn on is mobile data or wifi, but if it'a on a web site, at least one of them is on. A message on a web site that says "turn your URL on" is nonsense - and I wouldn't even go to the site.


But what do I know? I've only been doing this since before there was an internet.
