[MEGATHREAD] Why can't I save a contact name with emoji

Emoji's on contacts?????

I have the emojis and i can use them anywhere on any app and text messaging but i cant put them on my contacts. .. am i missing something here ot is it not even possible yet?

The app, and different manufacturers write different "stock contact apps", determines what's shown on the keyboard. Some contact apps will show emojis on the keyboard, some will translate the text of some emojis to pictures (like a : and a ) with no space between them become a smiley face).

It depends on the phone. (And there's really nothing you can do to change it unless you can develop your own contact app.)

Many (most?) phone makers (or Google?) do not allow emojis in the contact names when using the "contacts" app.

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which contacts app?

Because a contact's name doesn't include punctuation marks and other non-alpha characters - which you need for emojis.

As a general rule, it seems that Android does not allow emojis in the contact names.
You might be able to find a third-party contacts app that does it, maybe.

In general, android does not allow emojis in the contact names. This is not a keyboard limitation.

You can just go to that contact edit and save

I am going to make the bold assumption that we are talking about contact names in the contact list.
Most (all?) android contact apps do not allow emojis in the contact names.
