[MEGATHREAD] Why can't I save a contact name with emoji

Emoji's on contacts?????

I have the emojis and i can use them anywhere on any app and text messaging but i cant put them on my contacts. .. am i missing something here ot is it not even possible yet?

Android does not allow that. Contact names are text only.

Woot woot! I have a LG Stylo 2 this is what worked for me! So I tried to download True Contacts and my device wasn't compatible so I got SwiftKey board and this app called Drupe. Once I set up my keyboard I opened the Drupe app updating my contacts using the emojis from SwiftKey board. I saved the contact and it switched on my LG Contacts as well!!!!! Both apps are pretty cool so if you want to keep them it wouldn't hurt

Emojis are just a couple of text characters - the app you're in translates them to emojis. Contacts doesn't translate text to emojis, so there's no reason top put them there.

Welcome to Android Central! What do you mean by putting emojis on your contacts? Do you want to edit their names to include emojis? Or replace the contact photo with an emoji?

That depends on the keyboard. Look for emoji keyboards in Google Play and install one that has the emojis you want. (And remember, emojis are just text - it's up to the phone receiving them to translate them into pictures, so if the person you're sending a text to doesn't have an emoji that you send, it won't show. The standard ones like smiles and frowns will, but some of these emoji sets have things that the "developer" made up, not realizing that only people using his emoji set will ever see them.)

Some contacts apps do not allow it, so do.
My current LG phone allows emojis in the contact names, my previous LG phone did not.

Names are alpha-numeric. A name field won't take an emoji.

Some contact apps allow emojis, some do not.

Which keyboard are you using? I can add emojis using Gboard on my Pixel 2 XL. It could be a limitation of your keyboard or your phone.
