Memory Issues

The memory issue is real and totally unacceptable. Apps close too quickly, photos do not save. For a flagship phone it is outrageous. I will give Google until the November security patch due on Monday to fix it. If not, the phone is going back.

I am not willing to be a beta tester for their phones.

Have you tried the adaptive battery work around I suggested? It takes care of most of the memory management issues. Not sure about the photo saving issue because I've never had that problem.

Yes I turned off adaptive battery completely and still the memory problem persists

The photo saving problem may be a separate issue. I never noticed a failure to save. When I had the music/camera issue I disabled the optimization for music apps only. It only stopped crashing after a restart. I left it that way for about 3 days and enabled the optimization for the music apps and the problem is gone. As for the apps closer sooner than expected and having to reload I don't seem to be experiencing reloads as often. I've had my phone since the second day people started receiving them.

I don't think that it didn't happen with the 2....I think it is more aggressive on the 3.

Honestly I've never even thought about app reloads as being a real problem but I guess we are all wired differently. Music apps closing while running something else is more of an issue but so far that only happened with the camera so I'm not too concerned and my phone seems to have learned not to do that.
I normally don't think of it as an issue either, but yesterday I typed a reply into Tapatalk, then flipped to chrome to snag a URL and then back to Tapatalk. There were only 2 tabs in chrome open, but Tapatalk was zapped from memory and didn't list all that I typed.

When it limits multitasking it is more of an issue and more frustrating.

It is a real problem and should not be happening. One app I use often requires me to sign in again every time it is closed in background. Annoying. I turned off battery optimization totally again and I will give it some more time. I think you said wait two days?

That happened to me once after going into two other apps and going back to the text I was typing it all disappeared.

I don't know if turning anything off helps with apps prematurely closing because that's hard to verify. I can only confirm that it stopped my music apps from closing while using the camera. The app reloading is working better for me as far as I can tell but I'm not sure why. I'm OK with mine and don't know if my return period is over but I'm keeping it. If you are close to yours don't count on a patch by a specific date.

What do you mean by do not count on a patch by a certain date? Do you think that Google will take months to fix this bug?

I meant don't count on the November patch coming on a specific day because I don't know how long you have to return it. Whether all the issues are actually related and fixed with the next patch remains to be seen. I don't have any Intel on what and when will fixed.

If I had to guess Novembers security patch has nothing to do with memory management problems

my phone is charging right now, using apple music and taking pictures didn't cause music to stop. ill play around and see if I can get it to happen, using 3 (not xl), disabled wellbeing, adaptive battery on.

Google will address it in Feb of 2019 update as soon as they find out what it is

LOL. I hope this is not from a credible source. I'm due for an upgrade and it's between the 3XL, Note 9, and the Xr. Really want the 3XL, but if this is true this phone is off my list.

I have been using the Xs, but I returned and waited for the Xr. iOS is really smooth and clean, but I miss what Android brings to the table. I'm upgrading over Black Friday so hopefully they straighten this out before then.

Does these memory issues include the double tap to wake screen not to work most of the time. Driving me nuts as I use this function all day?

I have the same problem. Sometimes tap to wake just doesn't work. But it's not most of the time for me. And I'd say it's definitely not a memory issue.

Ok so I've experienced a major problem in a semi dark lite area the selfie cam is freezing, I am moving the angles but it's just not following. When I'm trying to take a picture the screen turns white but doesn't take the picture...seems related to potential memory issues

Definitely report it to Google, hopefully a fix will come out soon

Definitely report it to Google, hopefully a fix will come out soon
