Memory leaks... you guessed it, 2.2 OTA.

Have you performed a full factory reset (no, not the one mentioned in the thread about how he "fixed" the 2.2 update).

But just a standard factory reset! My job IS mobile phones (and no I am not a phone jockey at the blue box store), and 9 times out of 10, that fixed 2.2 update issues (sluggishness).
I have - both ways (standard and the method that is stickied). Neither solved my sluggishness problems, most noticeable when scrolling in an app (e.g. browser).

Alrighty...not sure how this thread has traveled to another rant on ATK Vs. No ATK.

Back to the OP's question (that has been sorta answered):

As you very well know now, memory leak isn't "real" with the Android OS.

I will ask you the same thing I ask everyone who has updated to 2.2, Be it on the Incredible, D1, or the big boy X;

Yes, full reset, cache cleared, minimal apps installed for now.

I don't understand why so many people out there are not understanding this. Android is not Microsoft Windows or Blackberry OS. It doesn't use all the same principals for managing memory.

The only time you are going to have a ton of free memory in Android is right after you use a task killer to forcefully close a bunch of programs; potentially causing harm to programs and instability in the operating system.

Android purposefully tries to use most all of the system memory so that it is able to launch apps faster. Over time the OS learns what is used the most and prioritizes the memory. So when you "kill" a bunch of apps all the time, it confuses the hell out of the OS because that's not what it was designed for.

So immediately after uninstalling task killers, the OS runs sluggish and crappy for a while until it learns from scratch how to load tasks efficiently. Quit installing task killers, quit looking at your memory.

The whole purpose of the OS is to utilize all the memory. Not leave 90% of it doing nothing, staying open. There aren't a million posts about NOT using task killers for nothing. If you think you need a task killer you don't know enough about Android to even have an opinion.

Well said !!!!

I'm getting extremely tired of seeing constant posts about
phone problems that are caused by the Damn Task Killers!!!
Google needs to remove the GD task killer garbage from the market !!
It seems like all the newbies run out and put that
garbage on their phones too !!!
Ok, rant off ...........

How long have you been using your phone since doing so?
Have you given the OS sufficient time to learn?

I've done something different and have noticed a huge difference in battery life.

THIS APP helps a lot.

#1, turn off the data syn, I can manually check email if needed.
#2, turn the Facebook updates to 2 hours.
#3, and most painful, but leave the wifi off. And honestly, with 3G, it is not that big of a difference. Even Pandora.
#4, leave screen on 50% brightness.

I've had normal use of my X today, off charger at 6 am and it's 4:00 and I've got 50% battery left.
Normally, it would have ran down by now. But I had left all that stuff on defaults and wifi on all the time.
I use my X a lot, I can't believe some people listen to music, call, text, Pandora, calculator, surf, read news/weather and get 26 hours out of a battery.
I'm hoping, if this whole thing about Android "learning your memory useage" is real, the battery life will get better as I do it this new way.
At any rate, it is better now some.

Kind of a jab there buddy. If it didn't have any merit, it wouldn't be there. 2.2 is buggy, period.

Yea, I just noticed that part you highlighted. That is kind of a low blow. So what if his job IS mobile phones, it should actually be "his job is working with mobile phones", so his job must not involve a lot of grammar.

But I agree, I've done everything possible to help fix some of the OTA 2.2's issues. Nothing truly works and Fabrian's method seem to help the most. That's why I installed LP+ and Dolphin HD so that a lot of the normal "bugginess" from the stock software wouldn't be present. And I love the setup I have now. I'm going to wait until Moto comes out with another OTA update before I root though.

Just gonna follow up on this from earlier, it's nearly 10 oclock and my phone has been without a charge since 6 this am. So, that's a marked improvement.
Leaving the wifi off all day, turning the fb refresh down and keeping screen at 50%.

I leave the screen at the lowest brightness setting to help conserve battery life. The screen is still totally usable at the lowest setting.

Yours might be, but mine is not sir.

And it wasn't a jab. I said "fixed" in quotes because he claimed to have "fixed it"

And being on a forum on the internet would require proper English diction why?

Because it only proves the low intelligence and laziness of people in this world. Would you type an email with grammatical errors and being unprofessional? No. Being on the internet is no different.
