What is the difference between Ram and phone memory? What kind of items exist on each?

Thanks much in advance

I am not entirely sure what you are asking... are you confused about the difference between RAM and ROM? Did you hear someone talking about flash vs DDR2?

I am getting a low memory warning on occasion from tasker. It says my Android memory is low. I have several gb of memory available, but only 84mb of ram. Just want to know what is using ram vs phone storage (not external sd)

RAM is Random Access Memory. It is what your phone uses to run applications...well part of it anyways. Your phone comes with a set amount as determined by the hardware. When you run applications it claims a portion of that memory. When the application exits or ends that memory is "returned" or realocated.

That message you are getting means you have a lot of stuff running at one time and in the background, it is using up most of your available RAM. This can be fixed by closing or stopping some applications.

Your phone also comes with internal storage which is the amount of free gb you see and is used mainly for application files and other system files needed for your phone to function. Things like your stock ringtones and notification tones are stored there as well.

You also have a SD card for storage. However apps are stored on your internal storage unless you root and have apps2sd. Everything else like pictures you have taken, things you have downloaded, music, ect are stored here.

Hope this helps! :)

Ram vs internal memory

OK, So the Ram is used for applications that are running.
If I load 100 apps but don't have them running, will the RAM be used or the internal memory?

I ask because I load/buy apps and I don't see the internal memory go down.

Also, is there a way to see the Ram used and available numbers?

Internal memory, but most apps are always running.
Have you tried moving them to your card?

Not unless they are disabled from starting and even those that does restart you can setup rules to shut them down. No point of running services that you might not use in mobile platform, if one needs it then they can start it. This memory cache design originated from our beloved *nix world as its faster to have it preallocated thus improving time and performance when requesting given data. But as mobile device is limited in resource it wouldn't be suitable. Normally the backgrounds task will be released if something required it, but its much stable to just having it disabled. Now don't go disable all service if you don't know what they are leave it alone or you will reverse what you started in first place.

How do you disable services?
I know how to stop them, but how do you keep them from starting up automatically?
