Android Central Question

My galaxy note 8 on AT&T just updated to Oreo.

The issue I have is that when I open the messages app... all message notifications disappear even if I only open one message.

Example:
I get 3 messages from 3 different people while the phone is in my pocket. They will all be in my notification bar.

The second I choose one to look at in the app... the app opens to the message I select, BUT the little message icon disappears from the top left corner... Even if I never look at the other 2 messages. The little "2" will also disappear from the top right of the messaging app icon.

This used to stay up until I looked at each message individually and would stay there until i saw them all.

In class i routinely get 15 or 20 messages from 5 or 6 people, and i forget to reply to them all because once I open one, all the notifications disappear.

Also... if someone texts while the messaging app is open i get the bubble notification with the preview, but because the app is open the message notification in the top left doesn't appear

I'm having the same issue. The tex message notification in the upper left corner disappears once I go into the messages apl

I have the same issue, my sister brought it up and I have really started to know about it on my phone as well. Hope this gets fixed.

That really sucks. I use Textra which maintains the notifications until you review them. You might try that as an option until the Messages app is fixed. I like Textra due to the sheer amount of customizations you can choose if you like, but you don't have to do that.

What I find rather interesting about your issue with Messages is that the native email client now works the opposite. Whereas in prior versions, if you clicked to open one email notification, every notification for that email account was cleared even if you just looked at the one and never went to your inbox.

Yes, Textra usually is my goto for messages, but I find the pinch to zoom function on the Samsung Messages too good to give up for now.

What happened to the custom message tone for each Contact. I had the few really important people that text me with different message tones and after this Oreo update loaded it took that feature away which makes no sense since it is a very popular feature. It was a mistake would taking that off and it needs to be put back. You add all the other App notifications that I could care less about to the phone make it more complicated and annoying and so I have to waste my time disabling them. You have a better product then iPhone and then you make bad decisions like this. This is almost as bad as when you took away the expandable memory slot but you got the backlash fast and and corrected that bad decision quickly on the next model. Hopefully you will rectify this bad decision quickly. The thank you.
