Message on Google Photos "Unfortunately , Photos has stopped working"

Photos will work if I uninstall latest update, but fails again after updating. Will work again if I uninstall the update.

I have the same problem - Nexus 5, Android 5.1.1. I uninstalled the update (twice now), and then it works, but when I re-install the update, I get the "Unfortunately" message. What's going on?

Update today seems to have fixed this for me, woo!
