I have noticed this after the most recent software update on my Galaxy S8+ and it is quite annoying. If I am trying add a contact to a text message, I start typing the contact name, the result list shows me the Contact Name and Telephone Number for each number that I have for the contact but it does not show me which one is Mobile, Home, Work, etc.

For example, it shows me John Doe 123-123-1455 and John Doe 456-123-1456, when it should show John Doe - Mobile: 123-123-1455 and John Doe Home: 456-123-1456.

I don't want to send a text message to a land line or the wrong phone. Is this just a defect in the App? Is there a better text message app that anyone would recommend?

If you keep the same format for all contacts (home, work, mobile - and if one is missing, enter it as 000 000-0000), you'll know that the 3rd number in a contact with 3 numbers is the cellphone number. (It's a "defect" in how Samsung implemented things - pure Android shows <a number> Work, <a number> Home, <a number> Mobile, etc.

Try Google Messages.

I guess when you have multiple numbers for contacts it will show which you want to use as a default
