If I buy a phone the s21 plus which is 4 years old but is still sealed is it likely the battery will be still be okay after all this time?

Also the security updates run out jan 2026, are they really important. The phone I have now hasn't had updates for a year. Is it okay if I avoid wifi and don't download dodgy stuff?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! A 4-year old battery that's never been used is probably fine, but you may want to make sure the seller has some kind of return policy in case there are any immediate problem.

As for updates, I generally feel comfortable using a phone as a daily driver for up to a year, maybe two, after it has stopped getting system updates. Beyond that, I'd start getting concerned about missing out on important security patches. In the meantime, these tips can help:

My suggestion, run a a reputable anti-virus. Their are a variety of ways to force manual updates in your system. I would start in your system settings, and force a manual System Update/Upgrade. Next force a Play Store virus scan, then force a Play Store Update. Then inside the play store, manually update all your applications. This is a just a start to debugging, but may be your solution.
