Messages going to wrong contacts

[AC Question]

Recently when I try to send a text message to a new contact through the default Messages app it will go through to the chosen contact but then appear in the thread of an existing contact, resulting in a confusing string of mixed messages. Anything sent in the thread after that goes to the original contact and not the one I have recently added even though the name and number at the top of the thread reflects the new contact. This only started after updating my OS about a week or two ago.

I have the same problem. Last one, it actually sent to the contact from the previously-existing thread. Now has happened twice. Ugh. Makes my texting completely unreliable as it may send my messages to whoever.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Go to Settings>Apps (or the App Manager), select the Messaging app, and Clear Cache. If that doesn't work, try Clear Data, although this might erase any saved message threads as well.
