Messages+ on VZW phone on WiFi only?

I have an old S4 that I no longer use. I would like to continue to use on WiFi only. How can I get the Messages+ app to work so I can still send/rec SMS? Whenever I try to use the app, it fails.

Does it give any error? I've used that app on a Note 4 and an iPhone 5s and they both worked without issues when I had only WiFi..

Stick the Verizon sim into the s4 and use a little mobile data. Then put the s4 onto airplane mode and enable wifi. It should work then.

its not that simple. I had to replace the SIM when I moved to the Droid Maxx2, since its a different size. I don't have an activated SIM that will fit.

Why will it run fine on my Lenovo Yoga android tablet (that is WiFi only), but not on my old S4?

You will need a sim adapter then for the s4.

As for why, that you would have to ask Verizon as it is their app.
