Is it me or is the stock HTC messaging app not deleteing sms messages when the 200 limit is reached?

you just need to change your messaging settings and it will.

If you see more messages its more than likely because you have multimedia messages too. Check to see what they are set too. Its located just below the text messages.

I have it set to 20. But i know the threads I have dont have 20+ MMS messages in them... cuz the thread is spiralling 800+ total.

In the stock AOSP messaging app this works flawlessly. Even from the OG EVO 4G stock app. But not on the EVO 3D.

OP you're not the only one. Some threads are also coming back after I delete them.

Why don't you just install a messaging app like Zlango messaging? it's fun to use and run smoothly
find it on the market

The stock messaging app seems to be filled with bugs. I hope they fix the bugs soon. I like the UI of the app my self. I may switch over to GO SMS Pro until then. Or who knows I may just keep it.

I find Handcent which is free in the market, is a wonderful texting program with settings backup and Text backup capabilities.

You can't go wrong with Go SMS Pro or Handcent.

thankfully, I am still using the stock message app for my phone and have no issues.
I don't text much but I have sent photos and simple texts and all make it to the party without issue.
I still may try a free app in the future, but for right now, why fix something that is working fine for me?

edit: oh, and I wouldn't be suprised if after changing some settings on the stock app, you might need to restart your phone for it to take effect.

I hate that it shows the phone number next to the name at the bottom. Annoying.

NO problems with stock but tried Handcent on a whim and LOVE it...lots of handy settings...

I also have it set to a 200 message limit. I've found that it generally goes a few messages above 200. Mine seems to hover between 201 and 204. I don't know if it's not deleting them real time or if I have some MMS message mixed it since those have their own limit. (seems more likely, but I almost never send or receive MMS)

That's normal... esp if you have some MMS. On every other custom ROM and stock ROM (EVO 4G) it hovers around 220 for me. But the EVO 3D just keeps going to way over 400+.

Even using Go SMS it still kept increasing with it's own cleanup enabled. Handcent doesnt have that feature.

Only thing I can think of is i restored my text messages when 1st getting the device. Even then it initially truncated it to 200ish just fine. Then it started spiralling out of control. I deleted them all and will see if it works without restoring, but restoring on other devices and ROMs worked fine after.
