messaging icon and function

Hello. I am new to this forum and the AT&T Captivate (and "smart phones") - I have accidentally removed the Messaging icon that was on the device when I first starting using it. Have not found a way to restore the Messaging icon to home screen. I don't want to do a reset of the system because I would loose al the other mods I have made at this point and am happy with. So, the questions is how/where do I restore the messaging icon and function?

Go to the applications drawer, and long press on the messaging icon; this should drop it onto the desktop, you can long press and drag that around to place it where you want it.
