Messaging problems

I have a lg optimus e617g and for some reason my phone always displays a new text message when there is none. I have deleted all texts on the phone and still it says I have a new one. IT is so incredibly frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?

Your phone is a LG L5?
Anyway, have you try this?
Go to apps>all apps>messaging>force stop & clear cache.
