messaging sound

I am a bit confused with my message notification. I changed it awhile ago and I wanted to change it again, to hopefully one I downloaded. But I cannot find where to change the sound. I have searched settings both for the app and phone. It is driving me nuts. Oh, I am not using any third party apps, just downloaded a sound I wanted.

Try ringtone maker. It's what I use.

It's not about turning the sound I downloaded into a notification. It's about me not being able to find how to change the notification in the phone. I have looked everywhere to find it and I come up blank.

Have you checked in My files app in Notifications folder? Once there it should show up under default notifications sounds in settings>sound and vibration >notifications sound

I have to get some screen shots tonight. In sounds and vibration settings, for the notification sound it shows one sound but what plays for text messages is another sound. When I am under the regular messaging app there is nowhere to change the notification sound. And I did just look a couple of the sounds I have on the phone do not show up in the list. So I may need ringtone maker to change that. This is so strange...

For message app long press it then tap info>notifications >notifications categories >incoming messages tap >sound change
