Methods known to fix SD card issue/problem - mounting, unmounting

This issue is fixed on the optimus S as of the VC software release. It was an issue with the code and low class cards. After VC, even the cheapie card the phone comes with stays mounted.

Glad to hear that the VC update will fix this problem. My SD card has been unmounting even with an 8gb class 4 card that's been reformatted (two-three times). Looks like it's time to bite the bullet and update...

does it really matter what type of micro SD card I put into the Lg optimus s?

What happens if you put a micros SD card that is not a Class 4?

I ask because, the 2GB micros SD card that comes with the phone, has no sign of saying Class 4 or anything remotely close to that.

Phones with radios V9 and below tend to have a problem with SD cards unmounting. This seems to be a problem that occurs with cards that are lower than Class 4. Not everyone experiences this problem, although there's a noticeable amount who have.

Not to fret! There's a solution for this problem: update to VC or VD radios.

VD is the newest one out right and hasn't posed any problems for people. However, it removes the ability to use wifi tethering without rooting.

I believe the stock SD cards are Class 2.

I just bought a new 8GB class 4 memory card for my phone, if I follow the steps from the original post does that mean all my files from my old 2GB will be transferred to my new 8GB??

what would happen to all my apps+data that is stored on my 2GB when I transfer it to my 8GB?

Re: Methods known to fix SD card issue/problem - mounting, unmoun

Hi

This sadly did not work for me

I had problems with my sony X10i for a long time in terms of mounting and dismounting, but they went away on their own.

When i have recently updated my phones software it no longer reconizes my 8gb sdhc class 4 card which has worked for years in many different phones, the card is still readable on a computer and has been formated in the way that has been suggested. it does howver reconize an old 1gb standard card that i have lying around? so i'm not too sure whats wronf wit it

Seemed to work for many others. Seems that what finally fixed it was an update from LG.

The problem didn't go away for me after updating to VD. What seemed to solve the problem was changing the launcher from stock to Zeam launcher. I don't know why that worked, but it did (maybe it coincided with something else I did), and its a faster and leaner launcher anyway.

This problem still happens to me every so often and I'm running VD. I'm using a Patriot 16 GB class 4 SD card.

To fix it, I unmount the SD card and mount it again. Typically that resolves the problem for a while.

This also worked for me, thank you! Mine was to the point where it mounted/unmounted more than several times a day... And it was saying "sd card broken"... followed the steps give in here, first time formatting the sd card failed, (i purchased a class 4, 4 gig sandisk for 10 bucks @ walmart) second time success.. But when I copied my files back over to the sd and tried it for the first time... Immediate broken sd message, went straight to the androids "clear sd card" or whatever option (where the mount feature is u know), and cleared it, its been a week and not a single problem. :) I have all my pictures and music backed up on the computer anyways but I've wondered if it was either a corrupt file or the card... in any case it's nice to have more storage and it seems to work faster :) thanks again!

Re: Methods known to fix SD card issue/problem - mounting, unmoun

I have LS670ZVH SW version and previously had numerous daily unmounts with a Patriot 8 GB class 4 card. 1 Week ago i purchased a Samsung 16 gb class 6 micro sd card without any formatting from either phone or laptop I copied all of my data to the new card , inserted and have had no issues whatsoever. Hopefully this remains trouble free.

Some small advice I should give you: when a thread is this old, that's when your free to make a new thread :-) just thought I'd warn you as most forums have a policy about posting in a topic older than a certain amount of months.

Anyway, why are you wanting to unmount it? If you want to use it with the computer, install the drivers from the rooting thread, then plug your phone into the computer. Drag down on your phone's screen from the top and tap the USB Connected notification. Finally press the button the pops up. :-)

Format the card to NTFS not FAT.
Do it either on your PC or Mac.
But you must install a NTFS app on the android, otherwise the device will not recognise the card.
You can format the card to NTFS using the app too.
The app will auto mount the card when the device is turned on.

I'm going to make a guess here. The phone goes dormant/asleep. The SD card shuts down.
When the phone is awakened, it tries to access the SD card before the SD card is ready for access, which triggers the dismount response.
If this is indeed the case, it would seem that a simple software update could give the awakened phone more time before trying to access the SD card.
Or perhaps, the phone shuts down/sleeps before properly closing all activity on the SD card, causing it to hang when re-accessed.
Note that I have no specific statistics to base this on; it's just a hunch, based on years of IT experiences.
Also, I wonder if manually dismounting the card before a shutdown or sleep mode would prevent the problem.

I closely followed the instructions, but still have the same problem: my tablet (LG-LK430 G Pad F 7.0) is recognizing the miroSD card (PNY 8GB. 6) When I go to Settings and click on Storage it shows the SD card Total space 7.35GB Available 5.18GB and Unmount SD card - all of his telling me that the tablet is recognizing the microSD card. However, the bar that usually shows graphically, in color the used space STAYS GRAY. In addition, I cannot access any of the files on the SD card (only music files). Please give me some ideas of what I can do.
