Might the Samsung verdict reduce OEM's use of skins?

So one main thing that got Samsung in trouble with Apple was their use of skins (TouchWiz) that mimicked the iPhone too closely. They could have avoided it all had they not rolled their own theme - the stock Android theme may not have resulted in the same lawsuit.

So, do you think Samsung, HTC, etc., will continue (or accelerate) their theme efforts or do you think they'll migrate towards a more vanilla Android UI (and let Google take the heat for UI patent suits)?

I hope they reduce the skinning significantly

They can make more original theme instead :p

OEMs always try individualise there phones since they not only compete with Apple but also compete between each other, Samsung won't get money if somebody pick Android but from HTC or Sony, so they try everything for you to pick there phone.... yes, yes you would love stack system, but most users don't care about that.

Shadowriver is right. If you have 5 android phones running the same version of android with the same internal specs and slight variations of screens, which one are you going to pick? The one that is completely stock or one that has pretty custom widgets? The OEM's are banking on you picking the one with the pretty custom widgets...

Thru would be nice if they could allow to install ready optional stack firmware, or at least make all phones bootloader open.
