I actually got started on Minecraft through the Android version and progressed to the console version from that. When I first installed it the game was very, very buggy and extremely limited and I shortly after uninstalled it. But earlier this year a few months before the 0.90 release came out I reinstalled it and it was much better and it has continued to improve with every update. But for me since I started with the Android version I really didn't know what I was missing until I played a more complete console version of the game.
But for me I love the Android version, even though it is more limited than the full computer or console versions it is still very fun. Honestly I have pretty much deleted almost every other game on my phone since I really started to get into it. One thing to keep in mind though is that it will absolutely annihilate your battery life. But the good thing is that they are still actively working to constantly improve it and add more and more features from the full version of the game. I would highly recommend it to pretty much everyone. Even my 6 year old son loves playing it and is going as Steve for Halloween. There is also a fantastic community attached to this version of the game and you can do local multiplayer with other people on the same Wi-Fi network, or you can connect to a server and play with groups of people like in the PC version. We have had as many as 4 people playing on different devices in one world at my house... which to be fair was me,my wife, and my kids.
