Missed call, text counter

Yeah iOS has been getting better and makes me continue to think if I should switch. We will see how I feel about the Pixel and if it keeps me or not. Honestly the other big draw to iPhone is the Apple Watch. I have the MS Band 2 and love it but they are not creating a new band and the android wearables really aren't up to snuff. One of my coworkers swears by garmin but the devices seem bulky and the screens and functionality seem less than stellar.

I also thought about switching, and used my dad's 7+ for a day before giving to him. I love the way it looks, the battery life and camera, but HATED the notification system, no app drawer, and other little things. One other major factor is how much I am invested into Android. I literally have over 100 purchased app. Most are free or bought with very cheap price because of promotion and Google survey credit. I don't want to spend that much money to repurchase these apps. With what I am seeing so far, the Pixel has met my expectation with the battery life and camera. Only thing I wish it is a little thinner, but I do love the look of it.

I do agree with the wearable, I have a Huawei Watch. Love the look, but android wear right now is not there yet. I was hoping for the update to 2.0 will change that, but unfortunately it is not happening until early next year. Hopefully that and the rumor google's own watch that is supposed to come will catch up with apple wearable.

This is good and bad I think. For me. I constantly check my phone and clear message and notification, the counter never gets too high or on too many apps. It's a mess on my wife's iPhone. IPhone has counter on every app, it really looks messy if you see her screen with every other app that is telling her she needs to check something.

Agree. I turned the counters off on my Note 7 because they look messy. Google has clearly been against counters for as long as I can remember. I am not sure what their logic it to not making them an option though -- particularly on an app by app basis.

I wonder what the native functions are you will lose? For example will Google Assistant be one, I expect the 24/7 support will be one. Who knows have to wait till someone switches and lets us know.

Anyone figure out how to get the phone, text message or Gmail icon to show a counter? For example say I have 3 unread texts how can I get a number to appear next to the messenger icon?

Yeah this was almost a dealbreaker for me and I was about to trade in my Pixel 2, or throw it out the window first. I finally found a workaround for the Pixel 2 not showing unread bubbles or "badge count" on the icons for SMS and missed calls on Dialer/Phone, which is an absolutely ridiculous flaw IMHO. I've spent weeks trying to fix this, patiently waited for the Oreo 8.1 update, and tried every other Desktop "Launcher" out there.

I was about to go return my Pixel 2 for a Galaxy S8 but today I finally got the badge counts working so I'm going to test it out for a few weeks. The best Launcher so far is NOVA (also tried GO, Evie, CM, TSF, and a ton of others) but with Nova I could not get the Tesla Unread app working. After many hours on this I finally got text notifications working for SMS by using NOTIFYER and I got Missed Calls showing up by using SMART NOTIFY. Gladly paid the $2.50 to $5 each of these apps cost. What a nightmare! I think I'll go back to Samsung in a couple years for my next phone. Not too stoked on the Pixel 2. I hope this works for others...
