Missing around 4GB of storage space...

I had this issue a while back. Reset the phone to factory default and start from scratch fixed the issue.

If you are using CWM Recovery, boot into recovery mode and delete the CWM backup. You can also wipe cache partition and dalvik cache in the advanced option in recovery mode.:) It worked for me.

That's the way it is for me too. Not a big deal, it's just Android, the kernel, boot loader, etc.

If you are using clockworkmod recovery.(I flash my gt-I9300 with cm11 but still storage place missing). By deleting backups files from clockworkmod works(using the clockworkmod app)! my missing storage is back!! :D

Same issue.. missing approx 4 GB, I have tried clearing cache partition and dalvik cache partition nothing worked, even I found no backup under backup n store in cwm recovery. Please help.

I am having same issue. I bought my Moto G 2 in September, 2014 with Kitkat. Upgraded to Lollipop in January, 2015. Upgraded to Marshmallow in February, 2016. I have attached 3 pictures to make the issue clear. I am unable to access 3GB of the storage since almost a year.

The 3 GB of system data in the 3rd image is what I would like to view / recover.

Sometimes I am transferring files between PC and mobile phone through remote service of ES File Explorer. I suspect that files deleted from mobile through PC disappear from mobile but do not release the space they were occupying. I have since long stopped doing that. Other suspicion is that Android update eats up storage.

Are you saying that the Settings>Storage menu says the phone has 4 GB TOTAL storage, or that it has 4 GB of free storage available to you? Remember that at least 3 GB of total storage will be taken up by the OS, and additional bloatware usually uses up an additional 1 GB or so.

when I purchase the phone its all alright with 8gb storage but when I factory reset my phone all I got was 4gb total space and idk where the other 4gb goes..before I can store like 10 apps but now I cant even go near that because I only left with 2.6gb out of 4gb..
