Hi everyone. Hoping someone here can help. This is a friends tablet. She'd been having issues with it being laggy....freezing, etc. I brought it home and updated everything, etc. Basic maintenance stuff. Still freezing, etc. I asked if she wanted to try a factory reset/restore from backup since I could see that it had been backing up regularly. Works well now as far as speed, no freezing or glitching, etc. I restored it from her google account when it restarted after wiping. I assumed that the games and data would be on the backup and restore. They did not, even though the automatically restore data box is checked. The games are all missing. I can re-download them of course but she's back at level one on all the games. They are listed in the Play store list of "apps you've used" . I can see a backup from a few days ago on Google Drive and I'm assuming that's where it's restoring from. She doesn't play through FB so that's not the issue....
I can open the backup on Google drive, open the app data folder and see the games listed and when they were last backed up (7 little words, 6.0 MB last backed up Feb 20) so they ARE there but I can't access them and they don't restore when I restore from google...
Can anyone give me any suggestions of what I can try? My friend says she doesn't care that much, she's just glad it's not freezing, etc. I'd like to restore her game data though, she was in some pretty high levels, I hate her to lose that....

Most apps now backup themselves via your Google account (or others, like Facebook). If she didn't sign in to use those options, or they weren't available, chances are the prior data isn't recoverable.

Apps utilizing the Google Drive backup is up to the developer to enable when the app is developed. Just because it CAN be done does not mean it is in all cases. There was actually a fascinating discussion about just this topic (included among other topics) on the Android Central Podcast. I believe it was in this podcast
