missing pictures

my wife has a Samsung Galaxy tab s3 (wifi) model gt-p5210
prior to taking it on a trip she had pictures on it. she says she took a few pictures however when I look at the gallery app I only see a black screen. if I go to the photo app I see a various dates and gray squares were pictures should be but no pictures. the fun thing just before posting this I took some picture and they were showing in the photo app under today's date. but now they are not showing.

Welcome to Android Central! Are the photos saved to Internal Storage or to a microSD card? SD cards can fail or get corrupted.

Sometimes the thumbnails get lost and have to be rebuilt by the system. Try clearing the cache for the photo and gallery apps (easier just to go to settings-storage-cache and clear the cache across all of your apps) and restart the phone. They should come back.

Sounds like the files are getting corrupted. Are you saving those to an SD Card? If so, the card might be faulty now...
