MMS with a picture arrives as a video? Sender error/slideshow??

I've had several iPhone users send me pictures - they arrive as MMS in the stock message app. However, they seem to be videos or slideshows...

Two of them appeared as 20 second videos and would not show me the picture until the progress bar reached 10 seconds. The third was a 10 second video that showed the picture from the start but again it has the video controls (forward, back, play/pause).

Are these people just sending them wrong or is this a bug?

I have been seeing this bug on my girlfriends Droid X for a couple months now. It's very odd because I have a Fascinate on Verizon (on the same family plan) and don't have this issue. We thought it was just that phone, but she just changed to a Droid Charge and still has the same thing happening.

I've been seeing the same thing on picture messages from my wife from her S2, they show as 5 second videos with no motion.

Trying to find the answer to the same question. And when the videos come in, the quality is so bad you can barely make it out.

Also, is there any flexibility in how you manage the photos that are sent?

I thought they fixed that when ICS came out?? I remember GB phones doing that....

It's always done that on Android, don't know why, hope they fix that soon.

i've noticed that with the stock messaging app. I use handcent sms and they come thru as pictures now.

While looking at the preview in the messaging app, just long press on it and save the picture, then you can look at it as long as you want. I know it's a hassle, the GS2 did the same thing, and yes, using handcent fixes that issue, but I like the notification and direct shortcut you get from the lock screen to the messaging app which is, although I don't really like it, why I keep using it.

Has anyone had an issue where something was sent as a video and when the other person gets it the video comes in as a slideshow and just shows a picture and sound but does not play video?

I am having this issue also.

I had the Evo 4G for about 2 years and never had this happen once. So I believe it is more than just an android issue.

I agree, handcent sms is way better. I don't like the adds, as discrete as they may be.

Hey there, I have Samsung dart phone. I am experiencing same problem but now I have solved the issue. What you need to do is open up the message then long tap on that pic, which is like video and select the option attached items and it will show all the items meaning all the pictures attached together so then u can select means tick mark the screenshots which u want to see and they will be copied to your gallery in photos and there you will be able to see them

As previous poster stated. The whole picture(s) is there, its just how it is being presented to you. If you just tap u get a slide show. If you long tap hopefully your phone has an option. My phone actually said 'save to internal memory'. I did that and was able to see the pictures from gallery app in the download folder.
