Mobile Hot Spot

ok i see what u saying about the HTC sync and all but i too want to use the mobile hotspot for my Ipad

ok just to help a little with the whole tethering thing. on my storm i was going to pay big red ( vzw ) for tethering every month but theres this app that i would pay a one time fee of 40 i believe and i can tether my phone to any lap top. well i got it for my storm and it works for me fine and have never got a extra charge at all for using it. as far asconnecting it to your ipad i dont think it would work cause it has to be a app you down load from itunes and i doubt they have it. well heres a link guys to the app and i been using it for my storm for almost 2 years and love it and they have a android beta.

Tether BlackBerry | BlackBerry Modem | Tether

to tether to an ipad or other device that isn't running an OS that something like HTC sync or pdaNet can be installed on (or something that has no USB ports to connect the device with) you'll either be paying vzw (provided there is an official app) or waiting for the device to be rooter so you can install a wireless tethering app on it.

This kinda blows. I'm moving over to Verizon from Sprint (been on a Pre since launch last June) next week and was really hoping the free hot spot offered with the Pre was going to magically be available on the Incredible (wishful thinking anyway). My interest in hacking ROMs are over... I just want to use the device as is. I also don't want another Pre unless there was a new hardware version out. My point being, like some others here, I want to tether my iPad with it. Again, problems solved if I buy a Pre, but I really don't want to at this point. I also don't want to pay for tethering :p ... Verizon pricing is rape as it is.

Ya, I could stay with Sprint and hold out for the Evo which would solve most of my problems, but the whole reason I'm leaving Sprint (finally) is because of coverage. Verizon works in all of the places Sprint doesn't.. and it just so happens that I need to have service...well, everywhere, and especially where Sprint coverage either craps out or is constantly roaming.

Today I was standing in a Verizon Corp store actually playing with a demo Incredible and tried calling myself with it. I got my voicemail

Why would you even bother with bringing the iPad in the first place. The Incredible will have FLASH LITE- the iPad can't even play video.

Because its a highly capable platform that Google will be copying as soon as they can. There is a pretty obvious difference between a tablet and a handheld as well.
Flash sucks. I have it blocked on all my work and home pc's so I only use it when I have to. The iPad does all sorts of video in many different formats and that is one of its main uses. Many flash web sites, including You Tube, also do H.264 now so i have little trouble with no flash and am glad to not have it. It's bloated, slow, and consumes way too many resources including battery. I have zero interest in having it on a handheld.
As to tethering the Incredible..if you can make it a mobile hotspot I will be getting one. I don't mind paying the extra fee to Verizon. Tethering via a cable is outdated so it would need to be via Bluetooth or much better a wi-fi hotspot. I've asked Verizon and they say they don't know if they will offer any kind of tethering with the Incredible.

Hey just to let you guys know, I got my Incredible yesterday and when I plugged it into my computer it gave me a option to "share my mobile network with my pc"... So i tried it and it is working just like pdanet worked on my friends motorola droid... And it is just going onto my unlimited data plan when I check my usage so you shouldnt have to pay anything else for data charges... Its suprisingly fast too! 1.5mbs upload and download speeds...

Btw just switched from the vzw Palm Pre Plus and was using the free mobile hotspot... sooooooooooo slow! Was still kinda nice to have though...

Are you using a cable? If so have you tried any other method of connecting?

I may be wrong in his intent, but I got a laugh out of thinking he was implying Jobs would have a 'no Android will ever touch an Apple' type clause in Apple Warranty paperwork.

Just a humorous post on the thebizz's part if I read it right. :D

Root + Barnacle = Free Mobile Hotspot (Just be careful with your usage)

I am using this with my MotoDroid and iPad... works great.
