Mobile Hotspot Interruption New Theory

Okay, I've got a new theory on this Mobile Hotspot interruption issue.

Certainly, if the primary data connection is lost, that could be one reason (i.e. no 1x, 3G/4G). But, barring that...

Today I was using the Mobile Hotspot and experienced this interruption, more than once in a short time. So I pulled my phone out of my pocket so I could see what was going on.

Right when my ActiveSync symbol appeared in the status bar (revolving circle) my Mobile Hotspot Laptop Internet connection would pause (data flow interrupted). I watched as my ActiveSync failed (failed symbol on status bar). But the ActiveSync became more aggressive and tried again, this time succeeding. All this time my Laptop data was paused (page not found, etc). However I never lost the Wifi connection from the Laptop to the Mobile Hotspot. After the ActiveSync succeeded and was done with its business, the Mobile Hotspot data flow resumed. All this time I had a 3G data connection.

So... my theory is that the reason for these Mobile Hotspot interruptions in data flow is because your phone is trying to sync, and that phone data activity conflicts with the Mobile Hotspot data flow.

I won't have time to fully test this theory for a few days. I can't do it from home over my Network Extender/Internet connection 'cuz of too many variables to be a good test.

Anyone else is welcome to test though. Prolly just turn off all phone/program data syncing before the test and see if the Mobile Hotspot maintains data flow.

I disabled both the background data sync and the auto sync, rebooted the phone and enabled mobile hotspot, connected and tried to browse online. Unfortunately my issue persisted. I would like to see the results confirmed by another user having this issue though.

I'll try it too when I get home tonight.

You're suggesting disabling both background data and auto sync while using mobile hotspot?

Drats. Too bad.

When I had my previous Windwos 6.5 phone, and when I tethered to the laptop (DUN), I would get a message on the phone that said all internal phone data was suspended during my tethering (or similar). And I could watch as my auto-email polling and such created a failure message on the phone while I was tethered, although the tethered connection was uneffected. My Windows phone was HTC Sense, also. Hmm... I remember thinking then, if the phone is so smart to know it can't check email while I'm tethered, why isn't it smart enough to not try! :)

FrankXS doesn't explain why it is knocking out the data icon thou. Thought the same as you to when using my iPad that my Gmail was pulling down while playing a video thought it could contain both in and out on the data pull. Who knows what is the reason for this, I hope HTC gets this fixed soon if it's software issue. I can't even use my hotspot cause it becomes so unstable to use for a certain period of time.

It's not knocking out the data icon. If it were, it would be a different problem.

The video MhzMonster posted is how mine does, but with a hard enough pull on the data from the phone using hotspot will knock the data icon out for a short couple of seconds on mine thou and then come back. Then process starts all over again and then becomes a cycle.

FrankXS what pick your brain a second a tell me what you make of this quote from @ community.vzw.board:

"I didn't read this whole tread so sorry if this was already posted. I email HTC directly on this and got this reply ( see below ). I must say it has made an imporvement in my t-bolt connection stability. Give it a try. Also after 3 weeks with this device my back/battery cover is getting loose and i have found that sometimes when I get a connection error squeezeing the top reconnects it ( I've got a replacement cover coming as of 1 hour ago ).*

" With regards to network hopping - basically the device flips between no data connectivity and 4g/3g. We have been escalating these cases as needed for further analysis as well. In almost all cases, the carrier, being Verizon, has been able to reprovision the SIM card which should fix the issue. If your issue is not fixed by this method, we would like to have your issue escalated, and we would be happy to contact you by phone to perform all the necessary steps and then escalate the issue as required. We do have some examples of this issue at our escalations desk currently, and are working with the developers to narrow down the cause and find a solution as quickly as possible."*

Well, I'm certainly no expert on HTC devices.... my thoughts though are that this is addressing the well known (to me) difficulty that this phone seems to have switching between (or looking for) 1x, 3G, 4G data connections. So much so that the delay is long enough to result in an apparent loss of data connectivity. Usually you will see this on the status bar though (network type icon will disappear). According to MhzMonster's Video however (and my recent experience) the network icon never disappeared.

Also, about the SIM... this is pretty controversial I guess. But I have read a number of posts on this and I personally am in the camp that does not believe the SIM is the issue. Beats me...

Yeah, I've read that thread and tried squeezing the two locations where the contacts meet the battery cover, and unfortunately it did not solve it in my case.
