Mobile Recovery (VZW Only)

Yes, it's legit. But apparently it has not even been announced yet (where'd you find this, Qazme?)!

Verizon launching new Mobile Recovery service tomorrow ? Boy Genius Report

Hummm.....ya never know ;)

I don't see why Verizon is the bad-guy for supporting new optional tech from one of its partners? If you already have insurance from Asurion (I do), this is just gravy.

And if Asurion made it available, but Verizon didn't participate, VZW would get LAMBASTED by Asurion subscribers for not taking part.

Get real, people. If you don't want the insurance, don't whine that the INSURANCE COMPANY won't let you use their product for free...

Yeah I agree completely! I love it, doesn't slow my phone down and give me what I had been wanting but couldn't find for free.

See, I'm not sure that's right. Some places it just says "wipe," but in the Learn More section it says:

Another thing to keep in mind you have to be using the VZW backup assistant for that to work. Which I don't. I don't have anything that important on my phone anyways.

Yeah, it's not bad for a free solution (well, free if you already have insurance, anyway) -- but it would be better if it supported full remote wipe. Who gives a crap about contacts? The sensitive stuff (i.e., steel my identity or rob me) is in emails, texts, and app data.

I dont think I have to worry about identity theft from the info on my phone.I always delete my email, sms text.
App data is a non-issue :p
The contacts pfft yeah not a big thing either if its not me they will just hang up.
But it was still a cool app and I got it on my X already had another free similar one on my Dinc :)

Just signed up for this, looks pretty cool. Im still keeping "lookout" though for now till I can try this out. I don't want to keep my gps on all the time though and crush my battery.

I never said they were the bad guy but just that something must be in it for them.

And it is free for now unless they pull the same thing that they did with the football app.....offer it free then change it to needing Vcast at $10 a month

Just was going to ask about that... how does this compare to "Lookout" app? I currently have that one.

I tried this and didn't find it to work very well. I tried locating my phone, which it did within 96 meters. However, it uses bing for mapping and indicated I was approximately 1500 miles away from my current location. Lookout placed my correctly within about 20 feet.

It doesn't use bing unless that is set as your default map provider. Uses Google maps on mine, and found my phone within 8 feet. Sounds like other issues on your end, or it just doesn't like your phone lol.
