Mobile Security Apps

After buying new antivirus software for my PC, I started looking at similar stuff for my phone (which seems like a min-pc itself, since it's more powerful then PCs that came out 5 years ago). I looked up "Mobile Security" and found all sorts of stuff from McAfee/Norton/BitDefender/Kaspersky...all of them have a "free" trial version, but I found avast! Mobile Security to be have the same, if not more features than the "full" version of these other established anti-virus corporations....at the price of $0.00

Not only that...but for me...the argument of not having a removable battery is over. Being able to remote lock your phone, and have it squeal in alarm, makes me sleep better at night knowing it can't be circumvented by removing the battery.

You can remote lock it (among other commands) by sending it a text from either of 2 dedicated phone numbers that you previously allowed the app to accept commands from. There's more features, but I don't want to sound like I'm selling it, I'm just impressed by it.

I'm probably going to root the phone as an extra precautionary measure, since there are more safeguards associated with the app for a rooted phone, but it's pretty cool to see how far security measures have come for mobile devices in just a few short years.

I use lookout......has worked pretty well for me. Scans apps after they are installed and runs full scans several times a week.

Problem is those apps are needed and will be running all the time meaning battery drainage. Lookout is all that's needed. Do some checking on the sight. You'll see a bazillion of these typs of threads.
