[MOD] Flashable buildprop edits (stock, stagefright, jit)

Alright, I have been reading a ton and just need to clarify these buildrops in my head. I am mostly unsure about stagefright. With it disabled and stock, we suffer speed performance but gain wider video format capability. With it enabled we see a jump up in performance and lose audio streaming? I have read that Pandora doesn't work with stagefright enabled, is this tested & true? Has Tune-In radio been tested? From what I have read, video taken on the Optimus can't be played back either.

this is from the thurnderom thread:

ThundeROM 1.5 has JIT which is providing your true benchmark speed improvement. The improvement seen in quadrant for stagefright is due to the current implementation of stagefright (in the optimus) being unable to read some media files so it gives it the highest score possible for that test.

In real world if you can't complete a test you receive a low score. Unfortunately with quadrant if the device can't complete a test then it gives it the highest available score. This is not a new revelation either, look back to when the samsung guys were doing their I/O hack to reduce lag but also produced a quadrant of around 3k or so. Their device wasn't really scoring 3k naturally but rather was getting the highest scores possible for the I/O resulting in crazy quadrant scores.

There is a plus side to enabling stagefright though and that's some audio and video apps specifically rely on stagefright to work. An example would be winamp. Winamp's shoutcast feature only works on 2.2 devices because 2.2 devices are supposed to have stagefright. Because shoutcast see's our device as 2.2 yet can't find stagefright (unless you enable it) you'll get errors.

Regarding JIT there is a bug associated with it but I don't think anybody really knows what the specific bug is. This is not speculation, right in the buildprop it states that JIT is disabled as a workaround for a bug. If you figure out what the bug is make sure you share it but I have no idea.

What it boils down to is this ....
1) JIT = Real life speed increase .... period.
2) Stagefright provides a false speed increase due to certain media formats nor working on our device
3) Without stagefright, certain types of apps won't work on our device
4) With stagefright, certain media types that used to work on your device will no longer work because you enabled stagefright and LG's implementation doesn't support that format (which is probably why they turned it off in the first place)

I took the time to provide a full breakdown and hope that you guys (the folks using the ROM) will kindly point people towards it the next time a "ThundeROM broke my (insert audio/video) app!!!!" post comes along

Thanks in advance

why is it when i install the buildpropdeluix my camera and camcorder dont work? is it the stagefright? when i install the build with jit they work again. is anyone else having this problem?

No real issues myself. Did a video and uploaded it to photobucket, and while playback was garbled with the buildprops enabled, the video itself was fine. Camera-wise I've never had an issue, though I don't use it much. I have had the phone crash once while I was opening the camera app, but then again (as I've said in other threads) I do have some stability issues due to what I've done to my phone.

i personally left stagefright off as some of my media does not seem to play wall (mp4's specifically), however i have seen people that needed stagefright on for media streaming.

i find it best to leave all the zips on the root of my sdcard that way if i need to, i can enable or disable it on the fly(somewhat).

Same. Camera flickers in and out while I'm trying to use it. I can sometimes snap a photo if I get the timing right. JIT-only however does the same thing. Trying to go back to stock. I do have ThundeRom installed and running at 720 something, so that could be the culprit as well. I'll try changing that next if this doesn't work.

UPDATE: After restoring stock buildprop, I'm still having this problem. Anyone have ideas?

Nandroid backup and restore your original Nandroid backup (You did make one right?)

If not - use the default system restore to stock firmware thats been posted.

If the phone has the same issues with the stock firmware, it could be your phone.

If the problem is fixed, you can choose to restart from scratch, OR
restore back to your current nandroid backup and continue to tinker.

Heh, I was just coming in to say I did a nandroid restore (and it worked after that) then reinstalled thunderom and so far, it's still working.

Rooted your phone? Have a custom recovery? Don't want to flash the best (arguably true since it's the only) custom ROM? But you still want those buildprop edits that enable stagefright and JIT? No problemo .... Androidcentral has you covered.

You must be rooted and have a custom recovery. This will not work any other way. The links to information posts on how to root and how to install a custom recovery are above. Any questions or issues related to rooting or recovery should be in those threads please :)

How To Use:
1) Download the Zip of the buildprop you'd like to use.
2) Put the zip on the root of your SD card. Do not open the ZIP and do not extract the ZIP.
3) shut your phone off then put it into recovery by holding the volume down + home + Power key until you hit the recovery screen.
4) Select flash ZIP from SD card
5) Select the zip you downloaded and put on your SD card (steps 1 & 2)
6) Confirm you would like to flash the zip, reboot phone after complete

Information:
The stock zip is completely stock v9 buildprop.
The Stagefright zip has only stagefright enabled and hw acceleration.
The Jit zip has only jit enabled.
Deluxe has, yeah you guessed it, stagefright, jit, and hw acceleration.

These edits (the deluxe) will take you from around 450ish quadrant score to around 950ish. And a linpack from 4ish to right around 7.5ish.

Want some before and afters? Beezy has you all covered in Post #3. THANKS BEEZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
