Modding the antenna?

Someone mentioned in another thread that they spotted the antenna in the SIM/Memory card cover. Out of curiosity, I had a look and there are a couple contacts there.

Just wondering if anyone has tried any fiddling. I know little about electronic hardware. Does anyone think putting in a couple small wires to extend the antenna (if that's really what it is) do much of anything?

Antenna design is very complex. I'd shy away from modding it unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Best case, you marginally improve your reception. Worst case, you lose your reception completely...lol.
