modify kernel

can anyone tell me how to modify the kernel?
i'm newbie

All depends on what your attempting to do...

1. Flash/Install a different kernel?

2. Change the settings of the kernel, example overclocking, voltage control, governors .. etc.

3. Actually build a kernel

Also it would be helpful if you were more specific to which model of Optimus your using.

mmm
my optimus series is sprint optimus s

i want to know how to overclock in order to play a game or application which needs high requirements

and can i build a kernel from source?

Well in short answers without getting in depth...

1. You need to be running a custom kernel. Which in turn requires you to be rooted with a custom recovery installed to flash a custom kernel/ROMs, etc.

2. Once the above is met, you can use SetCPU from the Market (paid) application or one of the many other free apps or tools used to manage kernels. NSTools is one that comes to mind, not sure if its compatible with the Optimus.

3. Once you get a custom kernel capable of OC and an application to manage the kernel its as simple as selecting a higher CPU clock speed. Sometimes adjustment of voltages is also required so your device doesn't crash providing more speed and not enough juice to the processor.

4. Building a kernel from source, while its not impossible does take some work and patience. Some of the in house AC devs or local members maybe able to fill in the blanks on this better than I can. It does usually involve running Linux OS or Ubantu installed on your system to build kernels.

Thanks Paul627g for your answers
i hope i can ask to you more about android later

sorry if my english not correct

I recommend kravens cm 7.2 rom has all the cpu oc built into the rom so you wont need setcpu or anything so far its the best rom for the s in my opinion mad options built right in
