more info on the encrypted bootloader

encrypted/locked boot loader only means no custom roms.

It will not impact the ability to root or not.

Most people don't care about 3rd party roms, trying to figure out which is the best, most stable, etc.

And the main stream, and average user isn't going to care about rooting either.

I really couldn't care less about custom ROMs. I'm kinda sick of loading leaked OSes, hybrids, and etc onto my Blackberry, so I'll just stick to an OS that's actually good and root it so I can get free WiFi hotspot :)

Here's everything so far:

Tweet: you know when youve got really good news but you cant say anything? that sucks...alot..

Tweet: What ive been told is DX stuff...but it wont be available to us for a little bit.

Tweet: If you Try all you can, and cant do anything, you must uSe A LAST RESORT

Post from birdman: You know i am a member here

More information will be available as soon as i can release it

All ill say is, think bigger than root :P

Post from birdman: 2 Reasons.

He doesn't want to say anything because Motorola could patch what he may found, and that won't be good

Whatever he may of learned, discovered, or done may not be complete or 100% true yet... so patience is key here
1) yes
2) kinda

Tweet: possible unlock

Post from birdman: hehe nothing as drastic as opening your phone

Forget about ever unlocking the bootloader on this one. First of all, its Cryptographically signed and locked. Unless you work for the NSA and have access to their supercomputers, its not gonna be cracked.

Then, even if you did manage to use your supercomputer to crack the bootloader, it also has a eFuse that will blow the moment it sees a non-motorola approved ROM.. thus bricking your phone.

I would stay FAR away from this phone. You will forever be at the mercy of Verizon and Motorola for OS upgrades, and in 6-9 months from now, when they are releasing the latest iteration of the DROID, you can bet that they will have little incentive to spend the $$$ to upgrade their older Droid X.

A better option would be the Samsung Galaxy S (coming tomorrow for T-Mobile, and soon for other carriers). It's already been rooted and the bootloader cracked.

MAN, my 30 days is up today, and i was going to echange my DINC for this, but now i am not sure.

And why are people so sure root will be achieved? isnt it possible that motorola, after being happy with their success of an encrypted boot loader on the milestone, spent all their energy on making the phone "unrootable" ??

I dont know about that, but there are probably better options that will be available that will allow rooting.

Its not going to blow up or brick. That was at least confirmed. Put stock back on and you're good to go. So this means there will be less hesitation in hacking the phone. I pretty much guarantee it will be rooted, maybe not right away but certainly in a few months. I can wait until then. And I don't care about custom roms since I'm only signing a 1 year contract. If I was signing a 2 year contract I might care a little more. If you want to tether and do the other stuff you can do with root, go ahead and buy the X and it should be done in a couple months, maybe less, but if you need custom roms then get a Galaxy S which is wide open.

It is great news that the efuse will not brick your device. But this will still be a tough nut to fully crack efuse posing the biggest problem. Even the sbf has to be tagged by Motorola to be used so their goes the Droid 2.1 root exploit. I give them two months for root unlocking the bootloader is another question entirely
