More media volume?

I'm replacing my Moto X with an HTC One M8, and the sound is better, but not louder. The speakers on the front are 3 times as big as the Moto X's, which is on the back, and the maximum volume sounds about 20% less. The Moto X seemed only above average on speaker volume when I tested phones. Sometimes when I am cleaning or driving I can't hear the podcast, and I was hoping the M8 would help with that, but now I realize there may be more podcasts I will have a hard time hearing.

Is there any way to increase the volume more than the max? I'm having a hard time understanding why such big speakers are so limited in volume.

The speakers them selves are not large. The speaker grills are large.
I have yet to find a phone that can reproduce good clean audio as loud as the M8.
Find another and compare, maybe you have a defective one? Was it new or used?

I'm not complaining that the speakers don't sound good, I'm saying they're not as loud as the Moto X 2013 (obviously you haven't heard them side by side at maximum volume playing the same thing), which is just adding to a problem. I can find another M8 and compare (maybe) but I'm looking for a way to increase the volume.

Increasing the volume above the max can and will eventually damage the speakers. So even if you find a way to do so, I advice you against it.

I use poweramp to play My music on the m8. Using this I can get a louder sound coming through the built in speakers as it has a 10 band equaliser and an output gain control. Just tweak the settings to your likings. Also press the limit button to avoid distortion and possible damage to speakers. Just be careful when you go and plug headphones in as you'll blow your ears off if you don't turn it down prior to plugging in.

Maybe your podcast is the issue? I can hear people over the speaker phone / music /movies just fine?

I've noticed the podcasts I listen to are quieter than most other audio sources. Even when I plug into my truck stereo, I have to almost max out its volume as well to hear them clearly when I can be ok with half to 3/4 volume with music and such. So it very well could be the podcasts themselves are just quiet.

I have noticed my speaker phone isn't as loud as I'd like but movies and music sounds great.
