If Android wasn't based around java the battery problem wouldn't have been much of an issue.

Look at Minecraft, it's simple but requires lots of CPU power to play the game at really high framerate. This is because Minecraft uses Java. It's a lot like Adobe Flash Player. Both are inefficient and require more CPU power thus decreasing battery life.
