Moto 360, Android Wear, Blocking Apps (or NOT), and Battery Drain (Google Maps)

Strangely enough, the day after I made my post I flew to a different state for the weekend and since then my battery has returned to a normal level of drain. I'm back to putting it on the charger with 40-60% left at the end of the day. Nothing updated before this behavior corrected itself, but Maps and Android Wear have both updated since and I have not seen a return to the weird battery drain. I still do not have 5.1.1 on my watch (or phone) but I'm glad to hear it may have fixed the issue for others. For me, it seems like I had something entirely different going on.

I'm back on my original phone (Moto X 2nd gen) with 5.1 stock rom and am now running 5.1.1 on my Moto 360 (full reset done after update received).
I'll try and get some proper figures over the next few days but for the moment I seem to be seeing a higher drain again with Maps not blocked and cinema / theater mode on. (approx 18% over an hour).
Of course this may be a temporary aberration (at least I hope so) whilst things bed down after the update..

I came upon this thread after noticing an unusual battery drain for the second commute in a row.

My almost an hour commute cost me 20% with Google Maps and Music. Battery stats showed 3% for Maps and 5% for display. I noticed two troubling behaviors with Maps. It did not return the display to black once a turn notification came in. It also continued running even though navigation was finished and stopped on the phone. The watch was still lit up displaying a map.

I have an original Moto X running 5.1 and a Moto 360 updated to 5.1.1.

My current plan is to switch back to Waze for the time being.

Did you have the drain before using maps?

I have always found Maps to have a high drain when using it on the watch. We were just noticing a high drain on the watch when Maps was blocked on the phone.

Everyone else, keep us apprised with your findings!

I'm now seeing results similar to Funkpod of 10% per hour drain.

That's with a Moto X 2nd Gen (5.1 stock unrooted) running 1.1.1.2016316 Android Wear and Play Services 7.5.74, streaming from Google Play Music, using Navigation and EZCam speed camera overlay connected to a Moto 360 running 5.1.1, Android Wear 1.1.1.2006643, Play Services 7.5.76 with cinema (theater) mode off.

I suspect that's as good as I'm going to get..

I just baught my moto 360 yesterday and had 30% at first so i paired the watch and at the same time there was an update being downloaded next low battery showed up in like 15 to 20 min so i charged it 100% and installed the update the battery went to 73% and there was another update being downloaded so i had to charge it again and after the second update the battery drained to 70% also no idea if this is right i charged it 3 times and now i full reset after i saw that the programs may drain it but no idea if this will work

Updates and downloading things on your watch drain a lot of battery. Hopefully your battery life stabilizes after this!

I suspect that as well. Glad your readings are consistent with mine. Question, which watch faces do you use?

I can definitely say that stock watch faces have the best battery life.
