Moto 360 now or wait for the successor?

I can initiate a call and initiate a new text through my watch. Now, obviously, it uses my phone for both of these functions, but works great. Now, for a call, I have to either have my phone ready for speaker phone, pick up the phone or use Bluetooth (my option typically).

So you can make and pick up calls like on the Samsung Gear or Not???

I may pick up the new version if the flat tire is gone. I have a GWR and go almost 24 hours with the screen on. Give me a good battery and skip the ambient light sensor for a full screen. I especially like the lugged design vs the original.

Just picked up a silver 360 w/brown (cognac) leather bracelet from Best Buy the other day for $150. The next day, added a stainless Pebble bracelet for another $20 (haven't taken that out of the box yet). Between a 10% mover's coupon and a recent deal where you could get a $15 coupon for buying a $150 gift card, the whole thing basically came out to right around $150 total after taxes and minus those discounts.

I was hoping that Motorola would announce the next gen version and might have held out for that, but for $150 for the above, it was too hard to resist. I would imagine the next gen model will go for at least $250 to start, so the deal I got may still end up looking like the better deal anyway.

So far, battery life seems pretty bad, but it sounds like that gets better after a week or two, so I'm n
not panicking yet.

The flat tire is my main complaint but I knew that going in. I figured I'd just stick with watch faces that take that into account (i.e., mostly black backgrounds). Still, it's a bummer that I can't ever enjoy a white watch face, etc. (I know that plenty of people use non-black faces and aren't bothered by the flat tire, but it would absolutely bother me).

I'm also coming over from the iOS ecosystem, and recently bought a Nexus 5 on a deal ($150 unlocked) and flashed that with Android M. I still haven't gotten all of my stuff off of Apple's iCloud and onto alternative (mostly Google) options, so for the last couple of days I've still been using my iPhone 6. So yesterday I installed the apps/hacks to get the moto 360 working with my iPhone and that worked OK. I think I did lose connectivity between the two a couple of times, but I couldn't tell for sure how often it was happening, because I turned WiFi on on the 360 and I had already moved my calendar to Google Calendar, so I'm not sure if the calendar reminders were coming from my iPhone or already cached in my 360.

I view the entire smartwatch concept as being mostly a "nice to have" fashion accessory. My main use case will be checking the time without pulling out my phone. I can see getting notifications for upcoming calendar events and text messages as being quite useful. Quickly declining incoming phone calls in certain situations could be useful on occasion as well (rare, though, since I don't typically decline most incoming calls). The fashion aspect of changing watch faces (and watch bands) should be fun as well. Another use case for me will be to use the stopwatch function when I'm grilling outside. I use my iPhone stopwatch a lot for that to keep tabs on how long steaks have been on the grill, etc.

Beyond that, I don't expect that I'd want to use the watch as a replacement for my smartphone for composing texts or emails, or doing anything where the smartphone's larger screen will provide a much better experience. But for $150, the limited use cases I described above seems like a good deal. Apple's proposition for $400 seems far too expensive, and I like the round face much better than Apple's design.
