Moto Atrix: What Do You Think?

If you like SLCD more than SAMOLED you're seriously tripping. Do you also like DVD more than Blu Ray?

Sorry I don't like over saturated colors and less sharpness. So if I have a choice I'll take SLCD. Oh, and when the screen is on samoled uses more battery.

I will give samoled+ a chance. Supposedly they fixed the sharpness problem.

Now LG has the nova display. I wanna see that one, too.

My favorite phone displays are still IPS LCD, though, like what's on the OG droid and d2 (and iphone 4). They are simply amazing.

SAMOLED+ has 50% more pixels now, word is it's noticeable. I agree the IPS screens from LG are awesome.

I see HD on the phone and in descriptions but is that 720p or 1080p?
Anyone? Bueller? :p

Both. From the Motorola fact-sheet:

HD 1080 p capable

Capture ? 720p MPEG4 and H.264 at 30 fps

(1080p will be supported via SW upgrade post-launch)

Playback ? 1080p MPEG4, H.264, WMV, Xvid at 30 fps

(Playback through HDMI is 720p at launch and will be upgraded to 1080p via SW upgrade post-launch)

Streaming ? VGA in MPEG4, H.264, H.263 at 30 fps

Thank you, you rock!
I was assuming it could since that was a feature of Tegra2 but I wanted to make absolutely sure :D

Nerdgasm. But when is launch is the bigger question.

Not to nit pick but its 50% more sub-pixels. If it were 50% more pixels that would mean the native resolution of the screen would go up as well which is not the case. The res is still 800x480 (4.3" version).

What you do get with increased sub-pixels is a sharper image, better color clarity, and less reflectivity (better viewing in sunlight). At least thats what Sammy says and it also seems to be corroborated by reviewers.

My apologies, brain fart. /embarrassed

Honestly I would rather have an ips screen with high resolution like the iPhone that's probably why I'm looking at these twins but man its amazing almost a year after the release of the iPhone 4 and the standard is still 800?480 was really hoping to see that change

I completely agree, after a lot of time using various phones over the past few months that screen has made an impression and I want something like it albeit in 4.3-5" guise. I'm also surprised the rear cameras aren't at 8MP standard and FFC at least 1.3MP. All this for high end phones of course.

Ok here are my thoughts. The phone is awesome. The docks are killer. Motoblur? Not so much. And given Motorola's history it won't be easy to root.

The reason I won't get it? AT&T. Not having unlimited data (or even a 5gb option) is an absolute deal breaker for me. Especially since this phone has all those docks that will help you suck up data.

Do I like the phone? Yes I do, a lot actually. But unfortunately it's hindered by a carrier that has low data caps. :(

If I was already on AT&T and had the unlimited data plan grandfathered I'd jump all over this phone in a heartbeat.

Totally agree with you. After seeing and reading about how cool it was, and then finding out that it's going to be on AT&T's network, it just killed it for me. No thanks... I'll stick with the Evo for now.

In my area I've always has the best coverage with ATT. Until CDMA gets svdo I don't see myself even considering leaving. Hopefully LTE changes all that for the CDMA carriers in the US and we get global phones moving forward.

Actually the ATRIX screen resolution is 960 X 540 :)

To answer the question in the thread title, "What do you think?"

I think I could see myself standing in line early in the AM for this. Never done that before.

I never said what the atrix resolution is I was speaking in general. But the higher Res makes me want this phone or its twin and if I were on Att network I also would be in line early am to get this phone

The Atrix does not have a twin. The Bionic...is more of a sibling than a twin. It has half the RAM, a higher resolution camera and larger screen (4.3" for the Bionic versus 4" for the Atrix). In terms of resolution - the Atrix has better resolution than the Bionic due to the fact that even though they have the same number of pixels - the smaller Atrix screen has those same pixels more tightly packed.

Right now - only the iPhone4 has better resolution than the Atrix. My personal opinion is that the 4" screen size of the Atrix is perfect. I feel that the 4.3" is too large and the 3.5" verges on being too small. If Motorola can get their launch inventory stocked high enough and AT&T markets this well - I think we could see iPhone style demand right out the gate.

Meizu M9 has same resolution as iphone4 iirc. Meizu CEO Jack Wong spills more M9 details: Android 2.2 and retina-busting 960 x 640 screen -- Engadget

I want the Atrix with higher resolution FFC and rear cameras as well as 4.3-4.5" screensize but raise the resolution, I know I'm asking for a lot. We'll see what Samsung has in store for MWC mid Feb as they hinted at a Galaxy S line follow up and they'll probably be sporting their new SAMOLED+ screens (their current pentile matrix SAMOLED screens don't do much for me). Then CTIA might also surprise us in late March. Doing my best to hold out until summer but I'm merely a man of flesh and bone with geek lust in his eyes :p

And the Meizu M9 is available on what US network? I mean - we are talking about competition here in the US. Not China.

As for wanting a bigger screen and higher resolution cameras. You can have that if you are willing to make a very small sacrifice in screen quality...go get the Bionic. Of course you will lose have the RAM.

Plenty of folks bring over unlocked phones. I was simply replying to your statement, perhaps had you further qualified it and added "readily available in the US" then it would've been more accurate.

Bionic has those attributes but I lose half the RAM and have to be on VZW which until they get SVDO is a no go for me. If by summer nothing else comes up then I'm picking up the Atrix as it is the best overall package (to me) available on the network I like.
