I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Elite Flip. I'm running android 4.04. Here is what I did.
I uninstalled Motospeak, unpaired the Elite Flip then restarted. This time I repaired using NFC option and it paired and connected automatically as advertised. I then reinstalled the Motospeak. I then tested it using both buttons. The results is the smart button on the side controls the Motospeak when making a call. It also mutes the call while on the call. The other button on the top I set the Svoice app as a default. Thus letting me use both apps depending on the button. You may get other results depending on your handset. I repeated tested it and works fine. Let me know your results, always happy to help.

Regarding your issue with Motospeak. I turned off the readout which wasn't working properly and turned on Driving mode which is Samsung's native text reader and alerts of emails and text messages as well. I find it working fine with my Galaxy S3. Let me know your results.
