Please share any useful tips and tricks you have found to get better performance and enhance the overall experience of your Moto G 2nd Gen (2014).

Mine is a model XT1064 and it is running Android Lollipop 5.0.2. I've read that there is a known issue with memory leaks in 5.0.2 and I have had trouble with some serious lag.

A couple things I have done to try to enhance performance:

--Use an app called Greenify to force apps to hibernate
--Disable OS animations via Developer Options
--Set location mode to "Device Only"
--Disable Google Now

What have you done to get more out of your Moto G 2014?

I have the same exact phone. If you have an SD card, use it as much as you can. Also, clearing your cache partition in recovery mode helps with lag. Heck, even shutting it down and restarting it helps. I use the paid version of Greenify so it helps too, as you know.

My question is, how did you disable Google Now? There's no option to disable it, just manage data.

I think you can't disable it. Maybe the OP was referring to the Now cards that can be switched off in the Google app settings. You can use a different launcher instead of Google Now and switch between them in settings - home.

Yes. I have it set to launch Bing instead of Google Now when I swipe up.

Gotcha. I don't use Now Launcher either. I use Nova Prime. Thank you both for clearing that up.

Despite my best efforts, my Moto G 2014 was still plagued by lag. I got frustrated to the point where I installed CyanogenMod last night.

Sooooo much better! The lag is gone. Night and day difference.

I have never rooted or installed a custom ROM on any Android phone before. It was quite a process, but thankfully the instructions were detailed enough that I was able to get through the process.

I wish I had done this sooner. It's like a completely different phone now.

That's awesome! I have never rooted before either. Maybe after my warranty is over I'll give it a whirl. Glad yours is better.

Which version of CyanogenMod? Also do you have links?

Rooting it is well worth it. I use my Moto G 2014 as a MP3 player and currently running Exodus Rom and it's awesome. If only my AT&T Note 5 can get root otherwise I would've root it in a heart beat.

I've been checking out different ROMs for it for when I actually do root it. Some look pretty sweet.
