Moto G (3rd gen): How do I set the camera to save to the SD card?

I just received the Moto G I bought for my parents. I'm setting it up for them but can't find an option to have the photos automatically store on the SD card. I know I can go to settings->storage to move the photos to the SD card.

If you have no SD card installed, or the SD card has been setup as Adopted (internal) storage, there will be no icon and you cannot change the setting. If you have an SD card installed, it is setup as external storage, and the phone sees it properly in Settings -Storage, the icon should be there, if it is not try to go into Settings - Apps and turn on System Apps, then find the camera app and clear data on it, reboot and try again.

Ah, thank you - I did, indeed, set up the SD card as internal storage, which I thought was the proper thing to do, so that explains that.

Yes,you can save your files automatically which you capture by camera at the same time.When you click on camera,the screen of camera allow you to capture the image.When this screens comes,then you have to put your finger towards left of the phone and wipes it toward right.Then it shows you many options.One of the option is storage location.Then choose sd card.

From my experience adopted storage doesn't work, and is very evil. After only 4 days my Motorola is is in hospital. For what would cost only pennies, my phone is very ill. 8gb on Lollipop or Kitkat was plenty, but on Marshmallow it's nothing

I have seen your posts a lot complaining about this device and how terrible it is... The problem is this was your experience, and 98% of all other users don't/won't experience a fraction of the issues you have had, much less all of them. Or course, it is possible your device was just a lemon.

Adopted storage works, it's not great but if properly adopted and migrated to a high speed, quality SD card it works very well for most users.

From what I've seen of your posts, the migration process did not occur or didn't complete properly, and given a reasonable time period and assistance from the community here the problems could likely have been corrected. Instead you chose to send it off, which is fine, but you don't need to badmouth a quality product... There is no questioning that fact, the Moto G 2015 is one of the best rated devices under $400 since the inception of Android, every single reputable Android site (Android Police, Android Authority, Android Central, etc) will back that up.

And as for Marshmallow, it really doesn't require anymore space or resources than Lollipop or KitKat.

The fact is that Marshmallow increases the space apps need, which is pretty much the same thing as using up more storage. Below is the email Motorola sent me

If you are using marshmallow you need to go to settings - storage and USB and select your SD card. Then select the menu in the upper right corner and select " migrate data to card"
The camera folders will move to card and then by default camera photo and video will now save to card

I have the same problem. The SD icon is not on the wheel. I tried going to storage under the SD card. When I go to the upper right corner there is no 'migrate to card'. It just has the grid view and settings. The setting choice just takes me to the card info and a choice to eject, format or format as internal.

So is your SD card formatted as internal now, or portable storage?

If it is internal, you will never get the option to save the cards to sd card, because that is where they will all go, in the encrypted filesystem of adopted storage. If it is portable and the option is not in the wheel, try clearing data on the Camera app, if that fails and you are rooted, I have another possible solution...

Like acejavelin says, you must have your sd card set as external storage.

Hi all! I have the same problem, but with cyanogenmod 13 on moto G 2015. No storage selection on the wheel. I have Sd card setting as external storage. No chances to set destination. Even with the stock android 6.0.1 I had the same problem. Anyone can help me?

Hi! I just had this same problem where every time I tried to take a photo it would tell me there was not enough storage. The problem was that I had recently changed SD cards, but I hadn't told the phone to forget the old one. You need to go to settings, storage, there should be both the new SD card and old one there. If you select the old one and then 'forget' it will stop trying to send photos there and will now work properly.
