Moto G freezing with EE sim card (UK)

I've recently bought a second hand moto G. It seems to work fine on wifi only and with a 3 network sim card but when I put an EE sim (I tried two) it freezes within a few seconds of booting up, see video: Moto G freeze and reboot - YouTube

Has anyone else experienced this? I think the phone was originally on Tesco Mobile and has been SIM unlocked (so the Ebay seller tells me). Do you think the phone is faulty or could there be some network settings I need to change?

Are the 'EE' Sims for 4G LTE? If so the moto G does not have 4G capability so may crash if the Sims are 4G.

I'm using ee I haven't experienced any problems.
